Never have a constant connection. Wish i could game online without being disconnected every 20 minutes without fail. They make no attempt to fix anything because they have no competition in the area.

I was an Ace DSL customer in a shared office building years ago, when I started my own IT business. This company is not at all customer oriented, and actually puts down its customers. They did in fact tell me over the phone that most customers are too stupid to manage their own networks. This was because I wanted to install and use my own router for remote access when paying for a static IP, which is somewhat against their policies. All (or at least every one I've seen) their customers in Michigan get a static IP whether they know it or not, with a pre programmed ADSL gateway or router from them, that is passworded and locked out, and will not reconnect if a factory restore is performed. However, the static IP is unusable because all "normal" customers are behind a NAT device and have no accessible WAN address or ability to port forward. I had to jump through hoops and finally got them to admit I could use my own router after signing a release form. They have Zyxel routers in service that have wireless built in but disabled, and only one LAN port enabled, and if a customer requests wireless I have seen them install a second router/AP and charge a higher monthly rate for wireless.
Since leaving their service area, I now support many customers in their territory, and it is nothing but a headache dealing with them. They have 10+ year old Speedtouch (Thompson, out of business) modems in service that continuously overheat and lock up, but refuse to replace them after repeated complaints. They have a history of buying up small rural phone providers like themselves (PenTel, Old Mission Peninsula in Traverse City) and service small communities, and try to shut out any competition. I have many customers that are able to port numbers out to Verizon, but then can't proceed to port them to cable or VoIP providers as can be done in nearly any other neighboring community.
When the company I worked for was paying $85/mo for 1Mbps service plus static IP, I called in a lot and got on a first name basis with a few phone support techs. Jerry (one of the oldest, now retired, and actually pretty nice but ignorant) told me "don't bullsh*t me" when I told him that two miles away in AT&T's territory I could get 3 times the speed for a third of the price. They have similarly bashed many of their customers for questioning their policies, etc.
This company is one to steer clear of, and if you happen to be unlucky enough to live or work in their service area, please do yourself a favor and sign up for Verizon Wireless Home Phone Connect, 4G from any provider, or even DishNet or similar. You will thank me later.
