Comfortable, safe environment & friendly staff. Excellent movie viewing experience!
A classic old movie theater that is non-profit. Excellent reserved seating and accoustics.
The movie was great! However, the staff was disrespectful; expected to the black woman who is so lovely to my guest. Also, I was falsely accused when I took a picture of the ceiling because I love the artwork. The person male claims that I was recording the entire film and didn't see where I was aiming at. I cooperated with the staff male and encouraged them to look over them to prove them wrong; he refused, didn't cooperate, and asked me to take another picture when the light was on. I was dissatisfied with his behavior. But I was satisfied with the film Coda I recommended, and the black woman is such a professional service.
Very nice theater! Great staff and atmosphere
I ordered a Avalon gift card. They sent the gift card to the wrong recipient’s name, who opened it before the holidays and now it can’t be used as a gift.
I love movies and movie theaters... I like the arts, independent cinema, cocktails, date nights, good nonprofits, etc... the folks who run the Avalon are exceptional and hire great staff... but I really wish the Avalon offered ONE family-friendly screening a week. This could take place Saturday or Sunday mornings when the theater is free, or even take advantage of the second screen. This would generate a good deal of much-needed revenue for a nonprofit, entice people back to the cinema after COVID, and introduce a new generation of screen-obsessed kids to the BIG screen. I will get this event sponsored in 5 minutes so it's all $$. I have mentioned this to the proprietors, this is the least important issue currently happening in the world, and the Avalon is already one of my five previous lifetime Google Maps reviews even though it's the best local search platform ever created and should also include a rec for Muchas Gracias... it's just looking like rain this afternoon and watching the Greatest Showman with the kids would be a lot of fun!
Fantastic movies selection. Extremely welcoming and helpful staff.
The only non profit theater in DC shows blockbuster movies and artistic, dedicated films. Beautiful classic interior reminds you that you are visiting the theater, not just the movies. Avalon serves snacks, beverages soda, apple cider, beer, wine, juices, and in my opinion the best popcorn it doesn't upset my stomach like a movie theater popcorn might. I love this theater for the experience and feel good supporting a local business. You won't miss visiting! It's also walkable and nearby plenty of restaurants and a stone's toss from Chevy Chase Pavilion, so this is a perfect dinner and a show type of place. You won't be disappointed.
Nice theatre with comfortable chairs. I'm not sure why check in online showed so many seats not available, as there were more seats available at the show. We just moved to a better seat, so no problem.
My husband and I went to the Avalon today to see In the Heights a second time. A man was in the glass ticket booth and was on the phone. We are kind, patient people and we waited for several minutes. We finally peeked inside the theater door to see if someone else could sell us tickets but no one was there. He continued on the phone. He could clearly see us. Finally we decided to enter the building to see if we could buy tickets at the snack bar. The minute we entered the building the man Finally interrupted his call to remind my husband to put on his mask. We were so angered that he couldn’t interrupt his call momentarily to sell us tickets but instantly did so to instruct us about the mask that we left and will not return.
