We always love going here with the family as a part of our museum visit-- last weekend we saw Amazon adventure in 3D-- a wonderfully told story and beautiful cinematography-- one of the best we've seen. I just read in the Washington Post that they plan to close this theater in September. IT is a big mistake-- we need an outlet to see these compelling stories and images from our natural world, told by scientists. It's an important part of the museum experience. I hope that Smithsonian will change its mind and keep the theater open.
Do not see anything 3D at this IMAX theater. The projectionist probably didn't bother to *watch* any movies in 3D before deciding to play Star Trek Into the Darkness. The left image was a bit blurry, had dust on the lens, and had ghosting the ENTIRE movie. Decent film but the experience was maddening.
Unlike previous reviews I found the 3-D resolution much better than at theaters. Attended the early show on Monday and got both a discount and plenty of choices for seating.
It's great to have an authentic IMAX theater in DC, but be prepared to be crammed into the seats if you are over 5'6" there's a big release. Saw the Dark Knight there and didn't get any sort of comfy theatre experience, but the sound and picture quality were excellent.
We really enjoyed the show. There is great views from all over the theater. We were a little disappointed that they cut the credits short and forced us out of the theater.
Amazing experience. Viewing angles are poor on the sides. However if you are able to get a center-ish seat it is a blast.
Excellent museum with really interesting permanent exhibits and a good selection of temporary exhibits. Hits include Dorothy's ruby slippers and the First Ladies' gowns.
Quality of the screen wasn't the best for 3D. Quite blurry.
