Big Schloss

This is a fairly easy hike to a rocky top. There is plenty of parking so that shouldn't be a problem even on crowded weekends. The first stretch of the hike is up a wide trail and isn't steep but it is uphill. There's a wooden bridge at the top which makes it look somewhat commercialized. Great views though and there are plenty of rocks so people can spread out.

Great day hike with extraordinary views of both Virginia and West Virginia. The hike begins at the camp ground in Wolf Gap. Starts easily enough at the trail head and quickly transitions to a steep loose rock trail hike for about a mile. At that point the hike levels out as you walk a ridge riddled with large rocks. Take your time here as there are some great views, especially in the fall. Eventually you will come to a trail sign that directs you to the peak. Cannot imagine what folks did to get to the summit when the bridge was not in place.

Nice for a dayhike. Great view from the top. We were backpacking past it so I'm not sure how long the dayhike would take, but I'd estimate it would have taken the 4 of us about 3 hours roundtrip (2 moms + 2 ten year olds). We also saw a mountain biker while we were there so you could probably do a fun ridge ride and take the road back. It would be tough getting a bike up that hill though.
