Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge

Lovely place to visit nature. The peninsula provides a short walk out along the water and if you have a non-motorized boat or kayak you can use the launch to head up the river and explore. Access is easy right off the highway with good signage.

Always calm there. Lots of lizards (1) rattlesnake and birds and a wide varied of Arizona flowers, shrubs and trees. Always love stopping there.

This place is gorgeous. There is a really nice trail to walk on. Kayak launch ramp. Great place to watch the sunset. Beautiful birds. Fishing docks. I have since discovered a stunningly beautiful drive that is Just past the Nature Center if you're headed towards the Bill Williams Bridge; the road is called Planet View Drive (it's a right turn). It goes through the Bill Williams Wildlife Refuge. This is one of the most beautiful drives that I have ever taken. There is a HUGE forest with very tall trees there. The drive is surreal because you don't expect to see this lush forest in the middle of the desert. I HIGHLY recommend this drive!

The road is definitely a little rough but not too bad — we drove our Subaru Forester here with no problem. Keep in mind that it is simply a drive out and back on this road — there are no established hiking trails in the Refuge. If you want to see the place (e.g., the river) more closely, I would recommend either kayaking or canoeing.
