River Island State Park

Great place for tent camping. We stayed in #37 it was half dirt and half grass, which was next to a ditch and brush. We ended up getting scorpions and tiny pink snacks at night. Besides that it was awesome. While we were out in the water we had a local come up to us and tell us that if you float out into the river on a floatie the current will turn you into a circle in the middle of the river and pull you back in front of the beach. We tried it three times and it worked. It was so awesome. Great experience!

We've been there twice although 8 years separated the visits. We stayed in one of the smaller sites since we were just using a tent. These smaller sites are great because they have a lot of shade, are close to the restrooms, and are the closest to the beach. They all have water and power, which is a nice plus. That said, the sites are not very well defined which leaves limited space. Fortunately we reserved spaces 30 and 31 and that put us on the end with an extra large grass area. The grounds are well maintained but my only complaint is the bathrooms. Several times they were out of toilet paper and the cleaning schedule closes all restrooms at the same time, which is very inconvenient for families with kids who cannot always hod it. The beach and cove are an amazing amenity. We had a great time boating, wading, and playing in the sand. As the saying goes, you can't pick your neighbors and unfortunately bad camping neighbors can leave a sour taste. Despite some bad apples, our camp out was a blast.

I have taken my Girl Scout troop to camp here and they always treat us amazing and go above and beyond. The park and bathrooms are always clean as well.

Next to the river and also next to the highway. Paved, well kept, large spaces. You have to deal with highway noise.

We got a camping spot overlooking the river so it was very scenic. One complaint is that the campground is right by the highway so you can hear semis going by all day and all night. Another big complaint is that the Wi-Fi did not reach to our camping spot and we could not receive satellite reception either. Otherwise the camp hosts were very friendly and helpful and the bathrooms and showers were clean and well-kept.
