Black Duck Cafe

Good, cheap place for seafood and drinks. Claims, oysters and chowder are my choice. Very good price/quality ratio. Service a bit slow, but it is well worth waiting for.

The only reason my cousin and I are giving this a 2 is because because our burgers were good, and the bus boy gave us more service than our actual waitress. She was completely inattentive and rude. One of us was unhappy with our meal, and when mentioned the waitress didn't say anything and walked away, never to be seen again. We had to ask other staff members for the things we needed. All in all, burgers good. Service bad.

Black Duck is full of character. It's built on the shore of the Saugatuck and seems at risk of some day sliding off the bank and into the river. It's dark and the unfinished wood floors can be sticky with spilled beer. The food is glorious, unhealthy, deep fried and delicious - think clams, shrimp, jalapeno poppers, etc., Plus some obscenely good burgers. The bartenders and wait staff are no BS, cheerful and in your face. All in all, this is my favorite road House in CT.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed the black duck before now. I've been coming here for 40 years not frequently but at least a couple of times a year and very very frequently way back in the day The food is great the bar is great the workers are great it's just a really great place to go to rarely disappointed even when a meal is off it's only off by a little bit and they're happy to make it right
