The adoption counselors at Briggs work very hard to find the best match for both the animals and their new owners. The goal is a forever home. I have adopted a cat from here, and was so please with how we were treated. Later, I became one of the receptionists. Every day that I work I witness the hard work and the patience of the people who are in charge of choosing who gets to adopt. Sadly people are sometimes turned down, whether it be for working all day and not being home to train a new puppy, not taking current pets to the vet, living in an area that would not be safe for a dog that likes to run, etc. Because we are a private, non-profit organization, we sometimes appear to be "picky" about who adopts, but then again the counselors will work incredibly hard to find the right match.

DO NOT GO HERE. The adoption counselors treat the visitors horribly. You are ushered back to a sterile animal confinement area where you have no chance to even look at a dog before you are pushed on to the next glass cage. After asking to visit the dog and asking a few questions (that they were unable to answer) I was rudely told "We don't do that here. You have to fill out an application first." After this horrible first impression, I was still willing to fill out the application and visit with the dog... BIG MISTAKE! I was then interrogated over who my regular veterinarian was and if I planned on having children or moving in the future... I answered all of their questions and was left alone with new found anxiety. They returned to inform me that they would be in touch with me. Is anyone good enough for you people? For the sake of the poor animals that have found themselves here, lighten up and be kind to people who are still willing to visit your institution after reading all of these horrific reviews. If you are really about what you say your about then why do choose to keep these animals from loving homes? I don't understand how this place hasn't been sunk into the ground by it's horrible treatment of the public. If you want to be treated with respect and basic dignity then DO NOT GO HERE.

Terrible! Wouldn't let us adopt kittens and take them home the same day without "counseling," We went to the animal shelter and adopted two kittens that same day. They are doing well, eating and treated like kings! These people made a huge mistake. We've owned cats for 22 of the 25 years we've been married. We spend a small fortune on Purina Pro Plan and Fancy Feast cat foods. Y'all couldn't have found better cat owners than us!

I adopted my cat, Hermione, from the Briggs Animal Adoption Center in May 2017. Were it not for the incredible staff at Briggs she would likely not be alive today. When she arrived at Briggs she was injured and underweight. The staff vet took an x-ray and discovered bullet fragments in her skull. One eye and part of her jaw were severely injured from the bullet wounds and ended up being removed. But thanks to this organization's dedication to saving every life they can, my sweet little girl is now happy and healthy and will spend the rest of her life being loved. Yes, their process is more involved than most. Because they are a private organization they are able to be more thorough in their vetting of adopters. They want to make sure that the animals in their care are going to homes where they will be cared for and loved for the rest of their lives--not stuck back in a shelter kennel when an adopter tires of them in a few months.

Adoption counselors are on a power trip. I have never been treated like that in my life. Luckily, I will never have to go back.
