Calypso Cafe 100 Oaks

I love this place! It is very hipster and fairly health-conscious. It has many options for vegetarians and vegans alike, however meat eaters will also definitely find a wide variety of options. I came here with my friends and we all found something that we could enjoy. It has a fun and relaxed atmosphere and the staff were all friendly.

Fantastic food. Some of my favorite food in Nashville it's from this particular restaurant. That being said their parking is a beneficial as the flood was to Nashville in 2010 also not a huge fan of the cheap plastic chairs. It would be nice to have a few bench seats or maybe some comfy chairs. But if my only complaints are cosmetic I guess that can't be that bad.

Caribbean American fare at a decent price. This is a casual restuarant with a casual environment that offers some nice eclectic island favorites. Calypso is laid back all the way from the dining room to the service. Ticket prices are low for the of the types of dishes you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere in Nashville unless you were looking for a specific islands dishes. Calypso is NOT a souped up "Hyper American Caribbean Fusion Boutique" where you'll be overcharged for what are the historically and traditionally simplistic dishes that make the best of the ingredients available in the poor nations they stem from. If you are contemplating Calypso as an option, expect simplicity...which actually mirrors more authentic Caribbean nation cuisines. Some might feel Calypso may error by sticking closer on the authenticity of real island food, but it's reasonably priced and not far off from the real deal.

Calypso Cafe in Berry Hill is a good place for a casual sit down flavorful meal. While I love their jerk chicken and other flavors, I am also a big fan of their salads. The restaurant can get crowded and it can be a while to get everyone served but the wait is worth it.

I have been going to Calypso for nearly 30 years at locations around Nashville, and this particular location since it opened. I LOVE their food and it is always consistently good. There are a lot of vegetarian options, which is a major plus for me. There are a couple drawbacks, though. First, the restaurant is small, so there is often a wait, even off peak times. The other thing I will mention is that the majority of staff at this location are not particularly friendly. They aren't rude, just don't interact with their customers much. This may not even be noticed in other cities, but in a place like Nashville, where even strangers on the street go out of their way to say hello, it stands out. The food more than makes up for any drawback, which is why Calypso Cafe will remain a local institution.
