Our family was informed of a potential job opportunity in Albuquerque. As part of our consideration in terms of whether or not it would work for our family, I looked in to local child abuse laws. What I found was that New Mexican regulations were sometimes unrealistic for normal parents in healthy families. Moreover, I learned that the New Mexican government is encouraging residents to report on parents who are unable to live up to their not-always-realistic regulations, rather than offer the help parents sometimes need. This is the beginning of a police state, rather than actually being about supporting children and families. They are setting parents up for failure from the get-go. Just look at the stats nationally: children removed by CPS are at greater risk of being abused than those who are left with their parents. Statistically-speaking, that's not protecting kids; but rather, putting kids at greater risk of bona-fide abuse. I'm sure that some kids get into better situations, hence the two stars; but as for well-meaning parents who end up having the CPS sicked on them, the CPS claim of protecting kids is probably nothing more than government propaganda. So, as for our family, we most definitely voted "HECK NO!!!" on that job opportunity. We are not perfect parents; but if you think that we are going to put our child at potential risk of actual abuse as a result of unjust and unrealistic laws, you're crazy! We have employment in our home state, and our home state generally does not have as strong a reputation of serving as a police state. Our employment and quality of life where we live are adequate for our family. So, we are plenty happy to stay where we are and spare our daughter and us a potentially worse fate. My condolences to those of you who do not wish to end up stationed in such a situation but must be there, due to military assignment. May God protect your families while you are there.
