Beautiful place but we were told that we could. It take pictures w/o an appointment and after paying $50. So you can’t take pictures of the old buildings, wildlife or even your kids w/o permission. Ridiculous!

This restored homestead is a beautiful place to visit. Unfortunately, since some budget cuts, it is open fewer hours for tours than it used to be and is maybe not quite as well maintained, but fortunately a lot of dedicated volunteers keep the place up and running. As a side note, the large front meadow is used a few times a year by an RC model glider club, which is fun to go and watch.

This was an organized school field trip, and the folks, in full period clothing, could not have been more genuine. They were engaging, and great with the kiddos. There were several hands-on activities, which made it that much more enjoyable. Even though Daniel Boone did not spend a great deal of time there, the people who run this have taken full advantage of the educational value, giving people a very real sense of what life was like back in the 18th Century. They combined lessons in military, Pennsylvania, early U.S. and agricultural history. We came on a cold rainy day, but I could see where this would be a great place for a family hike or bike ride. One thing worth noting as a parent of a young child; there is a gift shop, but all the items for sale related in some way back to the homestead. There were very few useless nic-nacs or souvenirs. That alone deserves a 5 star rating.
