This place totally took us by surprise, in a great way! I totally loved the history from colonial era through the mid 1800s. And my girlfriend was blown away at how beautiful it was. Super friendly helpful staff, and well maintained exhibit areas. Strongly recommend if you're nearby! We stopped on the way out after camping at French creek and it was perfect.

Hopewell Furnace is a gem tucked away in the rolling hills of Chester county. The park is located less than 30 minutes from Reading next to beautiful French Creek State Park. There are miles of hiking trails weaving through woodlands, fields, and beside gurgling creeks. Many of these trails connect with ones in French Creek to keep the hiker looking for a longer hike happy. At different times thoughout the years the park has Living History days, which provide awesome opportunities to learn about life in the 1700 & 1800's. In the fall there is apple picking (for a small fee) up in the orchards above the visitor center. If you have kids (or like learning as an adult), be sure to check out the Jr. Ranger program! Hopewell Furnace is definitely worth a stop if you love history, nature, or hiking.

Beautiful and interesting place! I'd love to go back for an event sometime. But we enjoyed just walking around the grounds. We also took family pictures here and it was a perfect location!

Well kept and informatve historic site... self guided or with interpreters. Volunteet colliers demonstrate charcoal making, giant water wheel to the furnace area, living quarters and sheep stables. Very interesting.
