I wish I could give a 0. I rented a car with Dollar Car Rental on Columbus Ave at the end of July. The rental agent asked me if I wanted to spend 15/day for our two week rental for our Honeymoon to buy the toll pass. I told him that we were only going through tolls on two days of our 14 day Honeymoon. To make a long story short, we had 4 tolls which there are no options to pay in MA or NY except EZPass of $1.24 to $1.76 each BUT DOLLAR CHARGED A $9.99 fee for each to process the toll For those who love math this is a 805% MARKUP FEE. This is a scam to make extra money for Dollar and I WOULD NEVER recommend using them and I will not use them or their parent company HERTZ ever again. To add insult to injury, on day 3 we got a flat tire on the road and when we called their roadside assistance they told us that we had not paid for roadside assistance but if I could drive the car back to Boston with a flat from Gloucester, they could help us. Obviously could not do that. The phone operators had no sympathy and just said to call your own insurance and see if they could help. I did write to Governor Baker to look into this business practice.
Try Avis before Dollar, similar price, faster to get the car, and easy to find pick up and return spots.
About 15 minutes wait at counter. Employee was nice and fast. Problem was the size of the car: we paid a hefty price for a medium SUV but got a tiny ford ecosport. So small. 4 guys with luggage ... Not a medium suv by my standards. Car was clean and in good order.
Simply put, do not rent your car from here. Dollar has closed their own store, put up a single station in the Hertz store and expect all the people who book cars through their website to just wait over an hour. The incompetency is fascinating for how useless their customer service team as well. You will watch as all of Hertz’s customers get taken in and get their cars while you just stand there with no sort of communication for Dollar Car. The person running this branch should be disappointed by their own incompetence
Giving Dollar rental car company the 2 stars, why you ask... Dollar was going to charge $600 for changing the drop-off location to Logan Airport. BUT, Quihannah stayed late when I picked up the rental,CS failed to tell me the location closed at 4 pm... 3:30pm the Google listing showsand she helped me upon my return. She was friendly, pleasant & knowledgeable, as she helped her co-worker with the car rental, they were working on. Thank you Quihannah, it was a pleasure dealing with you!
Returned car here. Personally handed the key to one of the associates. A few days later I start receiving hourly robocalls telling me I haven’t returned the car and I notice I’m being charged $100 a day in late fees for the car I already returned. Was on the phone with customer service for an hour and they were completely useless. This location won’t even pick up their phone. A week later and apparently my only option is to return to this location in person to make a scene.
Avoid them at all costs. You will wait as well as be up charged. There is a reason they are not publicly traded
DO NOT RENT FROM DOLLAR!!!! They charged me for my spouse even though I told them I was a Rewards member ... the agent never said she was going to charge us. They are all about fraudulent charges. I also rented a Mid-Sized SUV and they only had compact SUVs. False advertising.
Unlike the negative reviews posted here, my experience with this agency was quite good. Two rentals on January 2019, one of them returning the vehicle in NYC, and everything ran smoothly. Staff was kind, gentle and gave me all the information I needed. Recommended.
The car we rented overall resulted in a good experience. It was clean and well functioning. However, when we returned it this company tacked on a $300 fee for "cleaning due to smoking in the car". Me and the only passenger both do NOT smoke and no cigarette or other smoke entered the car at any other time. I think they were hoping I'd just shrug and pay for it without putting up a fight. I disputed it with my credit card company and never paid a time more than I had originally agreed. Still, outrageous that they would attempt something like this. My advice would be to go with a more reputable, trustworthy rental company even if it costs a bit more rather than do business with these unsavory people.
