Great idea, however this restaurant has a long way to go. The wait time for food was way too long, there were no condiments or silverware, the food was mediocre at best, and it took 20 minutes to just pay our bill. In order to have a successful business in a recovering city you need to have top notch products and services. Hope they turn things around but I'll probably never go back.
Staff was nice but place was dirty and should not call themselves a ping pong social club as they only had 3 tables. At one point shortly after we were there the staff folded 1 of the only 3 tables up and stored it in a closet to turn the area into a night club? The music was too loud, the what they called ‘food’ was cold and gross. They didn’t sell pop? I must mention there wasn’t another single customer for the entire two hours we were there - that was a quick red flag. We had a fairly large group of 10 people and was anticipating a totally different experience. The website is complete false advertisement for the place. The pictures and menu on the site don’t even exist. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed and it’s no wonder the place is closing for good next Friday It’s a total disgrace to what a ping pong bar should be.
I came here with 3 friends on a Saturday night after a Tigers baseball game. The place was empty but we figured we could have fun playing ping pong with ourselves. We paid for an hour, each ordered drinks and then went back to the tables to enjoy. They gave us 4 paddles and a bucket of balls to play with. We played 1 on 1 on two tables for about 3 minutes until we were yelled at and asked if we were going to pay for the second table we were using. We lightly joked that since we were the only customers on a Saturday that we didn't think it was a big deal that we were using 2 out of 4 empty tables. We were told "this isn't a movie theatre where you can sneak friends in when seats are empty." As customers, we understand and respect paying for a table...but since we were the ONLY people there, we found this ridiculous and rude to new potential customers who might recommend their business to others. Two of us then sat and watched our other two friends play while the staff turned off the TVs and alerted us of last call at 11:25 pm for an 12:00 am close time. Do not recommend....unfortunately because of service and lack of common courtesy to new customers.
Why would you not set up some sort of ping pong tournament? Doesn't really make sense to me to not coordinate something like that at an establishment who markets ping pong. Also we were the only ones there for about 45 min and multiple tables were left to sit dirty. The wait staff also made me feel like I was bothering them. The decorations are really cool though!
Drive is awesome! They now have a liquor license at their new, beautiful location, along with food. I have met many great ping-pong players there, and the staff has been very friendly and accommodating. This venue is a real gem in downtown Detroit, and a great way to have some fun!
It's a fun spin on a social club. Enjoyed going to a friend's birthday party but if I was thirsty I would've died before something wet touched my lips. Great setting but try to get your bar and waitstaff out in the crowd.
Great concept. Instead of standing in a sports bar you play table tennis. The space is big enough. And it is all just for fun and relax. But the place needs more incentives to thrive like Happy hours, tournaments, and something to attract kids to play in the afternoon.
I don't know about you but if I own a business and there are only 3 humans in it.....ibwould let them put on any music they like instead of saying "My boss doesn't allow that". I don't know about your business but in my business the number one concern is customer satisfaction. Especially when there are several tables with dirty plates on them. I'm sure the boss wouldn't like that either but priorities I guess.
Service standards don't seem to be part of the concept. When I call or walk in I feel like an unwanted guest. Seems like someone launders money here rather than having a desire to create a real live table tennis social club
An awesome themed bar right in the heart of the financial district in downtown #Detroit. Full bar and food menu available. *Note the address online that pops up is for the entire "Penobscot Building", but the actual place "DRIVE" os in the building with their enterence on Fort Street side.
