Fort Jackson

Very interesting historical fort. It's nicely maintained but still shows its history. The park that surrounds it is fairly large and is host to multiple events, to include a really nice crawfish festival. The fort itself has held up great for being 150+ years old. I find it extremely interesting from an architectural standpoint. I love all the old brickwork and that most of the old wood doors are still intact.

I loved the erie feeling. Also the personal tour we gave ourselves we moved at our own pace and there is a place to picnic. A great place to spend the day with the family fishing and exploring

We accidentally found Fort Jackson on a road trip. It was a place rich with history and many interesting parts to walk around. It's located right on the water and was a strategic defense point for Louisiana. Our favorite part of Fort Jackson was seeing several horned owls in the trees. They hooted at us until we left.

Nothing here but gated ruins and a view of the Mississippi. Still nice.

I've been down to Buras on multiple occasions on various days/times of the week and this is never opened. Fort Jackson has also been closed everytime I have gone down. It's a real shame these are not readily available to the public.
