Fort Pillow State Historic Park

We just spent the weekend camping and it was a great place to camp. We rented canoes and they were reasonably price and it was very clean. The park rangers were nice. I will camp there again.

The campground is pretty nice, but I was also the only person there. The sites are fairly close together though, so I could see where it might get noisy during peak season. I didn't see much of the rest of the park as I decided to cut my trip short.

Visit the Welcome Center first to learn about the history of Fort Pillow and ask to watch the short film. Staff is very well informed and helpful in answering questions about the time period and the soldiers who fought, died, and were buried there. Tip: If you plan to hike up to the mass grave, use the restroom at the Welcome Center first and take along a water bottle with you. There are no facilities on the hill so be prepared. If you have trash, kindly dispose of it in the garbage receptacle or take it with you. Treat the area with respect- American soldiers died there. Thanks for reading my review!

Whether you are a Civil War history buff, or you just want to learn something new, you will not be disappointed. This is off the beaten path , but well worth your time. Very friendly staff (Teri) to answer any questions and start the 18 minute video. Small gift shop. Thanks to Tennessee for keeping it free.

Great State Park!!!! It is off the beaten path, but is well worth the visit. Excellent Park Rangers and they are constantly updating and adding new actvities.
