The staff was great but the organization when my daughter went was a little messy. The training I received last time I was there was amazing

Camp Merrie-Wood is an awesome experience for girls of all ages. Oh.... Abby J...... Yes we do brook stomp and our girls have tons of fun. The counselor you're referring to should have told you about all the circumstances regarding who goes and why they learn to team build together. Sorry you only got one side of the story.... This summer feel free to call camp and we'll talk about the way our counselors interact with our campers.

I'm posting on behalf of my friend who has previously worked there as a counselor and she did not have the best of experience as she thought she would. She had worked as a counselor at another camp in the past and had a way better experience and enjoyed herself, but this camp was closer to home so she figured to work at this one- which ended up being a mistake. This camp does offer a variety of good activities which is good, but one thing that she did not like and does not think is fair is that they (mainly the director) makes the campers do brook stomping (one of the activities on Thursdays) even it they don't want to. The girls go there to have fun and if they are forced to do something then they probably aren't having fun doing it, I know I wouldn't. Another thing that she didn't like about this camp was the land it is on. It is mostly all dirt and rocks with a little grass here and there. The only area the girls are allowed to run at is at the sports and games area which even that area doesn't have grass which you would think would so it would be safer. During the parachute activities when bringing it up and down we had dirt flying around and going into peoples eyes. And on the rock paths they have like speed bumps don't know the reason behind that. Also she has told me several times that 99% of the time the director talked to her she was criticizing her and made her feel bad and dread going back the following day; even though I know that every day she was doing her best and enjoyed working with the campers. She has also told me that she felt like she was treated differently and unfairly then the other staff; especially during one week where the director made her like the unit leader and not a counselor like she was hired as and was basically in charged of the whole group (14) which was not right and overwhelming for her. She knew after week one that she would not be a returning staff to this camp. She also does not recommend this camp to others and from what I've been hearing from her I would not want to work there either.
