Dr. Ira Jaffe is a great doctor. I went to him after a miscarriage, which led to heavy bleeding and abdominal pain. He was patient and understanding. He took the time to listen to me and examine me to find the cause of my problem. I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for an OBGYN.
Dr Jaffe is by far the most intelligent, skilled, compassionate and personable OBGYN you will ever have. He has been my doctor for many years. I have had three children and multiple procedures. He has held my hand through many difficult situations. His bedside manner is honest, and compassionate.
This review is so overdue! I finally decided to write it because my experience was so very different from the other poster. Dr. Jaffe was my obstetrician during a very difficult and stressful pregnancy. I was initially a patient of Dr. Roshan, but was switched to Dr. Jaffe because I needed to have a very complicated surgery for the delivery. At 28 weeks, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. Dr. Jaffe was professional, skilled, supportive and so compassionate. He and Dr. Newman, another NYU surgeon, worked together to deliver my son and do a colectomy as part of the same surgery. I delivered with an epidural, then transitioned to a general anesthesia for the second surgery. Dr. Jaffe held my hands and did breathing exercises with me during the epidural placement. Before the delivery, he frequently reassured me about the upcoming surgeries And expressed the hope he had for my overall survival I was stage 4. Once he said “If I were a betting man, I’d put all my money in you,” which I still remember and appreciate. After my successful surgery I was in the general ICU and Dr. Jaffe made sure the hospital delivered a breast pump to me, and that there was someone available to take my breast milk to the NICU I delivered my son early. While I was still in the hospital, Dr. Jaffe visited me numerous times, each time chatting for a while, and he even brought me a decaf Starbucks coffee once. : He consistently went above and beyond in his care, and I know he has won well deserved recognition for his compassionate care. My only issue was the long waits at the office, but I feel silly even mentioning that after the quality of care he delivered.
In short : Please do not go here. I went to RMFM during the duration of my first pregnancy. The wait time at the Madison office is absurd, there is at least an hour before you are able to meet with the doctor. Calling the office is a task in itself, the receptionist always place callers on hold for long durations of time and ultimately hang up. Resulting in me having to call the office repeatedly until someone answers. I once brought this to the doctors attention and his response was "This is the norm for a midtown office and the receptionist are constantly rotating in and out. If you need an appointment or assistance go on zocdoc." In the case of an emergency it would be extremely difficult to contact the doctors at this facility. During my pregnancy, Dr. Lee sent a prescription for someone else to me. This is completely irresponsible on his end, if I was not proactive in finding out he carelessly sent another person's prescription to me - I could've taken pills that could have harmed myself and the baby. My delivery was marred by the disgusting bedside manner and actions of Dr. Ira Jaffe. During my delivery the nurses warned my husband and I to be quiet because Dr. Jaffe doesn't like noise - which is an absolutely ridiculous to request from laboring woman. As the baby began to crown, Dr. Jaffe suggested the use of forceps to speed up the process. When I closed my eyes prior to him getting the necessary tools, he began yelling at me. He improperly used the forceps, instead of assisting the baby out while I pushed, he ripped the baby from my body. Whilst he was pulling the baby from inside of me, my legs began to tense up - Dr. Jaffe reacted to this by hitting me multiple times on my chest and continued to yell at me. Once the baby was born, Dr. Jaffe began to stitch me up, refusing lidocaine from the nurse. I begged him to please numb me, once again he refused. Due to the amount of pain I was in, my bottom kept lifting from the table, Dr. Jaffe pushed me down and said "This is your vagina I am working with here, I'm sure you will want you use it again one day." The amount of embarrassment I felt in that moment is unimaginable. Dr. Ira Jaffe and his obscene practices have traumatized me, and has spoiled the memory I have of the birth of my first baby.
He was the best doctor ever !!!!!!
