Jim's Rib Haven is and has been my favorite place for BBQ! You MUST have the saucy fries... if you are traveling for more than 20 minutes, get the sauce on the side so they're not mushy. If you like a good heat that is not over powering, get the medium. Medium has a nice kick and adds the right heat to your meal. Enjoy your BBQ!
Absolutely delicious ribs. Had the chicken, beef ribs and back ribs. The back ribs were outstanding. By far the best I have tried in town.Food: 5/5
Where do I begin?? I wanted BBQ, the problem was where? I had places in mind but I was like um let try Jim's, haven't been there in awhile. I ordered the brisket sandwich with baked beans and saucy fries, huge disappointment. The brisket looked like Sloppy Joe without the sauce with slices of meat, the taste wasn't brisky at all. The sides weren't good as well, but I'm mainly concerned with the brisket. I called the next day to discuss my order, the person I talked to told me to call back later because the people on that shift cooked it. I thought yall was a team??
This has been a neighborhood staple for years. Some of the best BBQ in the O. I love the rib tips and the sausage sandwich. I get the hot BBQ but it does hold a nice kick so if you're not really a spice person I would say go with the medium sauce.
They are definitely a value location. We got ourselves some massive meaty ribs for a decent price. The inside isn't much to look at. It's quite sparse and most of the action is blocked off by a white counter wall. There are a few counter stools and a thin bar if you need to eat there, but it's not all that comfortable. The ribs were a bit lean for my taste, but my friend prefers them that way, so it is a preference thing. The sauce was fine, but didn't stand out to me. This was the third stop on our Omaha BBQ tour. Service was interesting. They have a small parking lot and a drive thru to serve you if you don't want to go out of the car.
Great food at this "joint" in North Omaha. The chicken dinner is huge -- a half chicken -- with large portions of sides. The potato salad is out of this world & the BBQ beans are worth the trip on their own. A real jewel.
On this day, our ribs were smokey and the sauce was good. I like my sauce a lot thicker, but this was not bad. The fries were the best and 15 mins later there were still piping hot. We liked it. The potato salad and baked beans were very, very good. Over all, the meats were not bad, but the sides were better. Didn't even have room for the cobbler. Next trip only sides and cobbler.
The OG of Omaha BBQ. Old school takeout. Got myself a bony box with medium sauce. Comes in a styrofoam clamshell packed with rib tips topped with a couple slices of bread and secured with a tooth pick. Some BBQ purists might scoff at wheat bread instead of Wonder bread but you're not going to Jim's Rib Haven for the bread, are you?Food: 5/5
I’m giving a 5 star BUT only because I believe they have much better to offer when the foods really fresh from the smoker. Try to be there when ribs are coming off the smoker. I got there about 8pm and my ribs were not very good. They’ve been held for a while in Sauce because they were overcooked and lacked a general smoke flavor that comes after being held a bit too long unfortunately they absolutely have to be held hot to maintain food safety, these folks are doing an absolute great job at food safety. Can’t stress how important that is and these folks do it very well. What they did have going for them was that they weren’t falling of the bone and mushy which is a no go for me. They make their own sauce which I should hope so if you’re doing bbq but this sauce is particularly good. Almost buttery but with great flavor. My sausage links were very over cooked though. If I had gotten all my food just as it was coming off the smoker I’m positive it would be a 10/10 but today it’s a 6/10. Do not shy away, go try them, fresh, right when they’re getting done and I’m sure this is an absolute fantastic establishment.
Authentic and amazing. Such great traditional BBQ. Just as good as ever. Love the Baked beans, delicious sauce and the smoke smell as you wait to place an order. By the time you get your food, you are salivating! Definitely a place to return to!
