Based on first impressions, this is the place to bring your loved one for skilled nursing. My mother is in need of a skilled nursing facility and when I went to research them, reviews of any kind were in short supply.
In my estimation, Life Care Center of Reno is the nicest facility in the area. The staff that I interacted with were the most professional and empathetic of all the facilities that I visited in the Reno/Sparks area. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a skilled nursing facility in the area.
My mother likes the facility. "The staff are taking good care of me," her words to me today during our phone chat. She's a tough customer so, kudos to Life Care Center of Reno. It puts my mind at ease to hear her say that because of the physical distance between us.

Well, I'm sorry to issue a bad report, and it has nothing to do with the nursing facility itself, it has to do with the activities director. I won't name names now, but I will say that Robert is wonderful but his boss is not. She made a promise to me she never kept, and the head of the facility allowed her to do so. My voice meant nothing to them. I will not send any family members there because of it. One bad apple spoils the whole bunch.

Pt was stepdown from acute head injury. Despite mediocre fall precautions, pt fell unobserved more than 10 times in 4 weeks, several times not discovered for over an hour. Staff very courteous but very obviously understaffed with nurses and aids. PT and OT services better than average and alot better than nursing.

My mom was there for 100 day. Here's the scoop -- there some are incredibly wonderful workers -- like Edwin, Jay, Kris, etc. They make it bearable. Then there are rude ones, like CNA Raquel, who are completely lacking in empathy and kindness. Once she left mom on the toilet for 1/2 hour, saying "You need to poop." (Who does that on demand?) She was exhausted once and needed to lie back down (Mom fractured her back, had a spinal cord injury and lost some use of her legs). Raquel said no, you will never get better if you don't stay up in your chair. We had to complain and get the doctor to tell her she could rest when she needed to. It seems the staff was not trained on how to deal with her injury and needs. A nurse, Norbert, yelled at her for not standing properly when they took her to the bathroom (she couldn't!!) and said "You are not getting better!" One lady completely forgot about her and didn't get her up to go to breakfast (she kept her name tag on backwards - I never knew her name). Mom buzzed for an hour, but no one came because they were either in the dining room or getting food for those who stay in their rooms to eat. No one was left to just help. Several roommates came in but we taken out because they wanted the TV on all night. Shouldn't you ask before bringing them in? Basically, your needs are not always met, and to be treated rudely is tough when you are so sick. Despite the kind ones, Mom tells everyone she hated it because she had such a bad experience with the few. She had to go back to skilled nursing later, and chose Renown. She had a better experience there, although the therapy was not as good (Therapists Angela & Jill at Life Care were amazing!)
