I had the Catfish strips and fried shrimp. It was excellent and can't wait to go there again. On the down side the green beans were so bland almost inedible. Take out only and incredibly busy on Friday night.Food: 5/5
This is my go-to spot for fried seafood, especially now that City Fish and More is no more. This place is actually better than its now-defunct competitor, and I regret going for so long without giving Mad Jack a try. I usually get catfish strips, fries and hushpuppies, though the fried shrimp is also excellent. There's no dine-in seating at all here, and not much of a place to sit and wait for a take-out order. So either go online and order ahead or get it delivered if you're in range. In addition to serving cooked seafood, this is also a fish market. That's a plus if you need some raw fish but a minus if you don't care for the smell.
10/10 I would highly recommend. This is my favorite fish spot to get fresh fish/shrimp. They have a large menu where you can order fresh seafood or cooked to order. Everything is so delicious and perfectly seasoned. The fish and shrimp are always fried in good grease to ensure the beautiful golden color. The fish is so moist and flaky omg, I’m definitely going back again tomorrow. The place is always clean, it doesn’t smell fishy. My order is always right. I love love love Madjacks in Kansas.
We used to live in KC but moved to AR. but the last time we were in KC we had mad jacks signature catfish fillets and we were extremely impressed, probably the best fish I’ve ever had. We didn’t remember that being an option years ago and we always ordered the catfish nuggets or I believe that’s what they were called, they were very good but these fillets were way better. Living close to Bull Shoals Lake, we assumed we could get good quality fish down here but these southerners could learn something about catfish from you guys. Next time we are in KC we’ll be sure to stop in again. Also impressed with the text messaging when your order is ready. Can’t say enough good things about those signature dish catfish fillets.
I called them about some specific fish before driving up to the shop and I was told there are a lot. When I drove up there after driving about 25 miles, I figured they lied to me. This used to be my place for fresh fish for several years before the new management took over. Even last year also, I bought fish many times. I will not go there ever again.
This is my “go to”’for fresh oysters in KC. The staff always checks for bad oysters before they bag them up. On occasion they have thrown in an extra 1-2 which is always appreciated. I don’t know where they get their oysters but I get more pea crabs when shucking these oysters than anywhere I’ve shopped from. If you don’t know, pea crabs are a delicacy and very rare only found in the cleanest of oysters.
Love the food & they have the best customer service!! It’s a vibe every time I’m in town I stop by! The wait is worth it food is ALWAYS fresh! Fried okra is a must!! Fresh food from freezer & hot meal! I get both lolFood: 5/5
Went for the first time today. The fried catfish was top notch. The fries were great also. Fountain drink had good ice. The staff was friendly and made sure you were served. They also sell fresh fish. It is a to go place with a bench along the wall, no tables. The 1/2 pound combo was under $15. A fairly priced square meal!Food: 5/5
Got the basa lunch special and it was delicious. Hush puppies are the best in the metro and okra was fresh. Staff at the deli counter was positive and friendly but the staff at the register acted like she could care less. When asked if it was a fillet or how it was portioned, she just said "it's a half pound fried" which wasn't the question. Had I known it was nuggets not fillet I would have ordered twice as much. Not entirely sure what the bread was for but it was good anyway wish there were a few more spots to sit because it got busy and between me on crutches and the elderly woman getting carry out and a few others, it wasn't much of a place for us all. Tile flooring looked like it was cleaned as best as it could be but needs updated.
I moved to KCK in 1991 from Palmyra MO. I grew up 1/4 mi from the Mississippi and catfish were LIFE. 23 years later, Mad Jacks is the only place in the KC metro that nails the goodness of catfish every single time.Food: 5/5
