Had a great time. We decided the tubing wasn't worth the cost but we still had fun. The staff at the top put a lot into each tube run for the kids, giving them spins and boosts. Skiing and boarding was great for our group of beginner - intermediate kids.
Great hill close to Calgary with very friendly staff and good prices. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quick day trip from Calgary to ski, however the extra 30 mins to Sunshine is definitely worth it if you want a larger variety of terrain. Overall, Nakiska is great for the price and not a bad hill by any means.
This hill is a great place to learn how to ski. It does get a lot of ice in the afternoon so I recommend getting there in the morning.
I had heard from people not to bother with nakiska this year, but couldn't imagine it was this bad. Almost nothing is open. They are charging full price, and the crowds/lines are insane. Calgary has many world class resorts nearby, but nakiska isn't one of them.
If you are going to a ski hill looking for a fun time, this is a great place to go! Though it is not the best hill in Alberta it is a great hill for the price and a great hill for beginners. The slopes are a decent length, but can get pretty icy. The workers there in general are awesome people!
Nice terrain, friendly staff, great earlier bird season pass and super convenient driving from Calgary.
This place boasts a large variety of well-groomed slopes suitable for all levels: beginners to advanced. Large parking lots can fit hundreds and maybe thousands of visitors. As this is the closest place to Calgary, it could be overcrowded on weekends and public holidays, especially green and easy blue slopes. My favorite is Mighty Peace. It's blue, however, one can achieve enormous speed there in seconds, it requires intensive knee and body work, but compensates for it with a fun and joyful ride.
Very nice mountain. I went today. The trails were all recently groomed. Not too busy today. Staff were friendly and efficient. The lodge and bathrooms were clean. Several chairlifts were down today and they were doing some extensive grooming, so several runs were inaccessible, but that's just part of ski life.
Nakiska is super close to Calgary. Probably the closest mountain you can access COP doesn't count. And if you can hit it on the right day, it can be an amazing place. But, the right day almost never happens. In 4 years of skiing here, I have only ever had 2 powder days. This obvioustly isn't the management's fault, but it does really detract from the experience. Nakiska is known for ice. Especially the run underneath the Silver chair, and about half of all the Gold chair runs. Nakiska doesn't operate the Olympic chair at all on weekdays. Only weekends. This makes it frustrating, as an out of base option for the hill is often not operational. My food experiences here have been okay - nothing to write home about, but not terrible. The lodge is fine, though it could definitely use more seating good luck getting a table on a weekend. Overall, Nakiska is Meh. If you can get a cheap pass, it's not a bad hill to come to on a couple quiet midweek days. Maybe you'll strike gold and hit it on a powder day. But for everything else, it's not a great hill. Definitely recommend driving a bit further to Sunshine or Louise, or else better BC hills. And don't come here on a weekend at any cost. Meh.
Close to the city, a good selection of runs that doesn't overwhelm, and the people are friendly and helpful. A great place for a quick few runs or people just starting out. But, if you're hungry, bring your own! Food costs are EXTREMELY high in the cafeteria. Yeah, food prices are climbing everywhere, but $15 for a sub-par poutine is nuts. They know it's a long way to other food options. However, food in the restaurant is about industry standard, and pretty good!
