We were reccomended to eat here by our family. Dinner was okay , decent pricing. We came back for cake later and it was very dry. Maybe we try again in the future but you can find better... as far as dessert goes $30 for two slices.Food: 3/5
Great food, good prices, good portion sizes. The pasta is made fresh in house and the selection of desserts is mind-boggling. Great place to go for a relaxed meal!Food: 5/5
I didn’t think I’d get seated without a reservation on a Friday night, I did which Impressed me. The service was spot on and very attentive. Food was good. The best part about this restaurant is the desserts, they are a meal in themselves. If you like chocolate I’d recommend the triple chocolate cake, it’s one of the best I’ve had .Food: 5/5
According to my husband this is as real to France food and the Drinks are an acquired taste. My husband ordered the Tepache Toddy which is served hot and I ordered the Raspberry lemon drop. Cheese fondue with apples, bread and green beans were delicious. Don't forget you must get dessert!Food: 5/5
Holy Happy Hour! This is more than an hour that makes me HAPPY! Terrific food at great prices must be seen and eaten to be believed and appreciated. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor; stop in for Brussel Sprouts!Food: 5/5
Wish we were seated in the quieter part even though we asked- as it was a special occasion and the experience would've been much better. Pretty chilly day and since the door let cool air in, it could've used some heating...other than that- great service, food better than expected and good cocktails.Food: 4/5
Wonderful service! They were an incredibly nice and pleasant staff. We spent about $100 on just desserts because we had heard they were top of the line....Our experience in that department fell unfortunately short. It seemed like the bakers had an off day or didn't care. $100 wasted and really bummed out on this.Service: 5/5
Come here for a special occasion! Service is excellent, food is delicious, and you can’t go wrong with their cake. I got the mushroom risotto and it was so flavorful, their burgers are also really tasty. My family has been going here for over 20 years and it never disappoints. Make sure to get a reservation in advance. I also love stopping by just to get a quick piece of cake!
I've been wanting to try Papa Haydn for awhile. It was my birthday this week and I wanted to have a high quality chocolate cake. Most people talk up this restaurant as having the best desserts/cakes in Portland. I can't agree. I know sometimes it's a matter of taste/preference, but everyone I shared it with said the same thing / it didn't have any flavor and wasn't really good. Maybe a poor batch? The ganache tasted mostly like flavorless butter and the layers were similarly bland. There was no sweetness. We thought it might be because it was cold, so we let it sit for awhile but even after that it was still pretty flavorless. Nice presentation, but no substance to make up for the empty calories and high dollar cost if it had been even a little sweet and actually tasted like a chocolate dessert instead of just having cocao in the recipe to call it a chocolate cake, I bet it would have been great. There could be any number of factors but multiple people felt the same way. In short, the triple chocolate cake is pretty but too bland. Don't recommend. It also took the staff over 5 minutes to acknowledge us in any way, a glance, a hello, anything is acceptable, but it did not happen. Not a big deal, but it sounds like that's at least somewhat normal and that lots of people report feeling a lot of negativity. I hope the employees are happy, but I would say remember that maybe jobs aren't always fun but you do reap what you sow. If you want to be happy, plant happiness and treat people how you want to be treated.
We came for my moms birthday last night and had a great time! Only trouble was my mom ordered her salmon well done and it came out almost raw the first time. The server apologized profusely and fixed it but it took 20 minutes to get the second dish out so she had to wait awhile to eat. Really loved the food once everything was correct, we had pork belly mushroom risotto and the pear salad with salmon. Great place for dessert but we had cake waiting at home! Love this place and will be coming again!
