Imagine this; it’s your first time visiting Portland, you wanna experience the best things the city has to offer. For me, personally, I always search for the best food joints because that’s how I like to experience a new city. Now imagine, it’s Sunday morning, the hottest day of the year, you’re getting ready for a 6-hour drive back home and all you can think about is getting some breakfast to keep you fuelled through the trip. Took an extra 20 minutes, 15 minutes if I’d taken the right exit the first time, out of our way to this small cafe on the edge of Southeast Portland and was it worth it! I’m no gravy expert, but the gravy and biscuit at this joint is fantastic. I had “The Works” which included all your breakfast essentials; sausages, eggs, home fries, and of course the biscuits and gravy. The atmosphere was welcoming and lively, and the service from everyone was friendly. The wait for our food? It was brought to our table by the chef and I would barely consider it a “wait”. Overall impression; Fast, Friendly; Freaking Delicious. Worth the detour, and worth driving back 6-hours for. 5.1 s
Came across these old pictures that I took a while back, so thought I would write a little review. I have only been here a couple times, but their breakfast and brunch foods are awesome no doubt! Simple, no frills, and very tasty! Not to mention that I love the old, unique, classic American feel that this place has… It feels like you are stepping back in time, and it is very charming! I also loved the decor and the friendly service here.
Come early and come hungry! Limited indoor seating and you need proof of vaccination. I got the cinnamon roll French toast because I’m incorrigible when it comes to sugar. Boyfriend got The Sellwood. Would definitely come back. Classic breakfast stop.
You're tired; you lost sleep worrying about the world last night. You walk into an incredibly cozy café with the friendliest waitress in the world who was apparently a regular for 8 years and wound up getting hired as a result, in addition to singing a little Sheryl Crow with said waitress and another patron. You then proceed to have one of THE BEST eggs benedicts you've ever laid eyes on: The Reverend Mike; a gorgeous grilled English muffin topped with savory corned beef, perfectly poached eggs, and a cascade of Dijon Hollandaise that you will sop up with fantastically crisp potatoes. This dang thing is going to take you to church in the best ways possible because it's just that delicious. The dish, the atmosphere, the service -- all of it will have you smiling by the time you're done. If you need cheering up hit up Bertie Lou's; it does a body good.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Bertie Lou's Caffe and I was blown away by the incredible breakfast options on offer. The fetch toast was especially noteworthy – it was cooked to perfection and had an amazing flavor. The cafe itself is small and intimate, with a cozy atmosphere that made for a truly enjoyable dining experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, and I can't wait to go back and try more items on the menu. Overall, I highly recommend Bertie Lou's Caffe for anyone in search of a delicious breakfast in a welcoming setting.
An exceptional, small, hole-in-the-wall brunch spot. They have a small diner bar across from the open kitchen with an adjoining room with six tables. The food came very fast after we placed our order. I had the biscuits and gravy, which came with potatoes. I added crispy bacon. The biscuits and gravy were the most delicious I’ve had. When I spoke with the cook on exit, he said it is a five-hour recipe that doesn’t include any water. I would absolutely recommend this place! There is no parking lot, but street parking was easy to find.
The service was fast and amazing. There was no time in which our drinks were ever close to empty. The food was, as simply as I can put it, crazy good! The portion sizes were abundant. But what I cant get over is how fast our food came out. It felt like we had just ordered, started looking around the room at all the artwork, and then boom food was on our table. While we were there a guy came in, walked into to dining area and points at something he drew over 10 years ago! This place is a gem and everyone should experience it at least once, we are going back tomorrow!
This place is really doing something right here. From the great quality coffee, house made sausage patty’s, delicious gravy, etc. the list goes on! My family and I were seriously left VERY impressed and satisfied with our visit today. Keep up the good work! Awesome little group of employees too! Very generous and attentive. Thank you so much!
One of our favorite Portland tiny diners. Great food, tons of charm, Portland classic quirky, charming and fun wait staff.
Their reputation speaks for itself, great service and the food was amazing. We had the chicken fried steak with sourdough and house potatoes, which was perfectly done, the gravy was superb. Also, had the corn beef hash, can't go wrong with either. 5 stars!!
