If you want good authentic island food, Reggae Shack is the place to go. The customer service is just a little slow (he/she could've been new) but it's nothing major to get agitated about. I always get the curry goat, extra plantains with extra gravy on my rice. My son got a burger and some fries and he ate every single bite of his food plus mine 😂. They have a pineapple mango smoothie (dairy free is optional) and it is soooo good. The size is nice too. So you can sip on it all day. The music always reminds me of when my grandfather/family visits from Jamaica/Trinidad. So soulful and at ease. The owners did a great thing by expanding the location as well.

If you look at my other reviews, you will know I don't leave bad reviews. I believe everybody has a bad night once in a while. This wasn't a bad night this was one mess up after another culminating in me leaving a restaurant angry for one of the first times in my life. There was no one else in the restaurant when we got there other than two tables that had already finished eating. We ordered what we thought were simple meals, goat curry and shrimp curry. The goat is supposed to be stewed for hours so we knew they weren't starting it from scratch after we ordered it. A table was seated after we ordered then another two. All three had their food and had eaten before we got even our appetizer of fried cornmeal which was cold. We asked if we were getting food and she claimed they were working on it, no other explanation or apology. She never filled our waters or checked to see how we were doing. After an hour of waiting we were about to walk out. I literally stood up to leave when she came out with our plates. Guess what, the rice and cabbage were cold and the goat curry was lukewarm at best. It tasted good for cold food but I refuse to wait over an hour for cold food. My wife's shrimp curry was the only "hot" thing on our plates. We complained about the long wait and cold food and the manager comped the goat curry plate without an apology or explanation. The manager just shrugged and said "I can start a new one for you". We said we didn't want to wait another hour and sat down to share the shrimp curry, paid and then left. Don't go to Reggae shack. There is another Caribbean place a few streets away called Caribbean Queen. They have oxtail and goat curry too but it taste better and is hot.

It's always such a great experience dining here. The servers are all wonderful, but Gabriel our server today was so sweet and brought water for my puppy without a request because we sat out in the patio area. My long-time friends and I hold this place special to our friendship as we always stop here when we visit each other in Gainesville. The food is great, the service is always so prompt and kind, and the atmosphere is laid-back. 5 stars for us!

Excellent food. Been here several times. Great jerk chicken or pork. Dutty fries are awesome. Patties are great but usually sold out by evening. Atmosphere isn't the best though. Not the most clean place. But authentic food!

by far the best Jamaican restaurant I have been to in Gainesville. Delicious meals, suitable for all walks of eaters. Plus the fact that it’s reasonably priced. Two drawbacks though, waiting time is always long especially weekend time, the other is the limited car parks either in front of the restaurant or in the area beside it. all in all, a very well managed place with variety of food.
