I lived in a studio for 3 months here over the summer. It was up a hill, buried in the trees which was so peaceful. It's about a 15 minute drive to downtown Charleston and there is a nice park (Cookskin Park) down the road with lots of grass, a small pond, and a golf course. These apartments are dog friendly and were the only apartment I could find that allowed dogs! Maintenance was helpful and the apartment was generally nice. The neighboring apartment smelled like smoke so I switched into a smoke-free apartment the day after move-in and they were really flexible about it. The space is small with a half oven/stove and a small fridge. The mini fridge either froze everything or let the frozen stuff defrost, depending on the setting -- so prepare to let even your eggs and milk freeze! There were a few bugs in the bathroom (mostly silverfish and spiders) but that's to be expected in older buildings. Studios do not have a washer and dryer, but there is one on site. Just don't think about going to Dollar General (right down the hill -- so convenient!) for change in quarters because they will refuse even if you make a purchase!
The worst part -- it was pretty hard (almost impossible) to track down a staff member to move in! None of my calls were answered and very few (1) were returned. I actually showed up ready to move in because no one had returned my calls. This doesn't make sense to me because I figure they'd WANT to rent their apartments but filling vacancies doesn't seem to concern them.. It was difficult to put in a maintenance request or to inquire about lease terms, deposits, and other general concerns. I have not yet received my deposit back but when I do, I'll reevaluate and give it 4 stars.

Connie the manager is horrible! She never answers phone calls. One time I called, and she answered on accident. She realized her mistake and hung up on me! The plumbing is horrible, and the door seals are horrible.
My boyfriend and I had a studio apartment. One day the walls, toilet, and bathtub started overflowing. We could hear the water in the walls, and we were afraid it would cause a fire; considering there is wiring in the walls. We called Connie 100 times. No answer! We had to get buckets and fill it with water because our apartment was getting flooded. We didn't know what to do, so we called the fire department. We called Connie again and left a message saying we called the fire department and notified the police. She called back right away and was very hateful. She said not to call her unless it was an emergency and hung up. I think our apartment flooding at 3am is an emergency!!
Everything is outdated! I know the price is cheap, but she should be lowering the price for what you get, and what people have to go through living there.
Oh, and be prepared to have your window screen be mauled to death by stray cats trying to come in your apartment.
Do not move in here!

Moved in here when I started my new job in West Virginia. Rooms are decent and reasonably priced, and the utilities are all included in the rent (except electricity). Studios have no washer/dryer hookups, but there is a decent laundry room in the complex. Wall mounted heating and cooling unit isn't bad. Don't trust the shelves for heavy loads. Biggest problem is that the doors don't seal terribly well, and bugs tend to get in routinely. Maintenance crew is fairly quick to respond and pretty friendly. Very close to Kanawha City, but secluded enough for some peace and quiet. It's nice little place.

She(manager) never returned all phone calls or emails. Finally got to talk to her the one time she answered. She was hateful and definitely not a people person.
