I was with my husband shopping for new luggage yesterday. I did my research and new I wanted to decide between Samsonite and Tumi at the outlet. And I am fully aware that Samsonite owns Tumi. Tumi retained it's designers and brand technology and design proprietary patents. We went in to Tumi greeted and given excellent service answered all our questions educated us on a few things we didn't know about the product warranty and design. Went into Samsonite and got said hi to and that's it! No what are you looking for do you have questions didn't even walk out from behind the cash register. We were looking at bags opening them reading tags. Not a peep. Finally I asked about the warranty because it wasn't clear from the tag. I got a curt is 10 years on manufacturer defects. Keep in mind there was only one other person in the store and they had just walked in and were standing at the door on the phone. It wasn't a busy situation. I thought wow this is really horrible service and I can see why Tumi has taken a 45% increase in market share. We have purchased from Samsonite before. We won't ever again. We didn't yesterday.
The staff were very helpful: the cashier made sure we didn't buy the wrong size suitcase cover, rang up the purchase without having to scan the luggage itself because we had already started putting our previous purchases in there. On the other hand, it was a little off-putting when we said that no one had helped us which was true, before the cashier started helping and the cashier didn't seem to believe it, as he kept asking other employees, "Did you help these guys?"
The Samonite website listed closing time for this store as 8:00PM. Guess I should have checked Google instead of THE COMPANY'S OWN WEBSITE. Needless to say, store was closed, my drive was wasted, and I'll be buying my luggage from a different manufacturer.
Consumer Beware! False advertising. The store merchandising advertised 40% off. When we found a piece of luggage that we liked for $199 and tried to buy it with the 40% off, the manager, Chad ripped the tag off the luggage and gave us a different higher price for the luggage. Classic bait and switch. Surprised that Samsonite, a brand know for quality and trust, would operate like this.
This was a nice place and they were helpful. We didn't purchase anything, but have an idea of what we are looking for now.
Great service quickly got me into exactly what I was looking for.
