Statue of Liberty National Monument

The Statue of Liberty is one of the most iconic monuments in the United States, if not the world. The statue, known as "Lady Liberty," represents all that is great about the United States. Lady Liberty was one of the first monuments that incoming immigrants to the United States saw in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It represented a sign of hope and relief that their journey to the United States had been successful, and that there was light at the end of the tunnel. While immigration to the United States by ship is not as common today, The Statue of Liberty still represents a sign of coming to America. New immigrants to the United States visit the Statue of Liberty as sort of a sign that they have made it to The United States. I would recommend visiting the Statue of Liberty to anyone who wants to experience one of America's most iconic monuments. If you aspire to climb the Statue of Liberty and see New York's iconic skyline and view, prior reservation is required.

Any trip to New York should include a trip to see the Statue of Liberty. For those on a budget, the Staten Island ferry is free, although it doesn't stop at the statue so you will only be able to see it in passing. Otherwise those wishing to have the chance to visit Liberty Island and learn more about the statue can go to Battery Park and follow the signs along the path which will take you to the ticket stall inside of the historic Castle Clinton courtyard. One of the cheapest ways to reach Battery Park is by the subway, which the green line #4 or #5 will take you directly to it. Note that there is a security checkpoint and all visitors planning to go to the statue will be screened so be sure to check online and leave behind any prohibited items. Alternatively visitors can take the same ferry tour from New Jersey. There are various tickets with different prices and which will allow visitors different levels of access to the statue itself. The ferry from Manhattan makes it first stop at Liberty Island where you can stay for however long you chose. Ferries arrive at the island every 20 minutes. On Liberty Island there is a gift shop and a small cafe where you can get a bite to eat, although it's cheaper and allows for more options to simply eat beforehand and pack a few bottles of water in a backpack, otherwise food and drinks, with the exception of water, is not permitted. For the best photos on the ferry ride, be sure to sit on the side nearest the dock when leaving Manhattan (the right side) and the left side when leaving the statue, if you want to be able to see the statue from the water. Most people make the mistake of boarding and immediately rushing to the side nearest the statue while still at the dock in Manhattan, however this will only allow you to view it clearly while at the dock, after which there will be several people in the the way as the ferry approaches the statue. After boarding a ferry to leave Liberty Island you will then be taken to Ellis Island where you can walk around and tour a museum. Visitors can stay for as long as they like, with ferries scheduled to arrive every 20 minutes, although some will arrive sooner. In total, plan to spend a minimum of 2 hours with a basic ground level statue ticket if you plan to disembark and walk around both Liberty and Ellis Island for a quick visit and brief glance at the museum. Both stops are included in the same ticket and both sites have park service guides who can provide visitors with additional historical information.

If you visit New York, this is the number one place you have to see. We enjoyed our trip here. The food at cafeteria is reasonable. Nice and clean as well. Informative and professional staff. Lots of stuff to see inside the statue, we even walked the stair inside.Good experience! However for the senior and little children, I don't recommend to take the stair to the upper floor. Elevator is the best option.

The experience of actually getting up close to this iconic landmark is hard to explain. You get a sense of awe thinking about how many have seen her from ships -- either coming to America as immigrants or leaving our shores as soldiers. The crown tour books very far in advance but you can often get pedestal tickets easier depending on the time of year. If you can, go for it. We did just the pedestal and there is plenty to see in there about the design and building of the statue, plus it's nice to get higher up for the view of the harbor and to see the statue even closer than from the ground. There's a new museum being built, which means you'll get to see a lot of the history and memorabilia even if you can't snag a pedestal ticket, which is a great idea. Watch for it to open in 2019.

HAVE A CITY/NYC PASS ? CHECK INDIVIDUAL ATTRACTION AGE RANGE BEFORE BUYING TICKETS FOR KIDS/CHILDREN. You need to queue up to convert the pass to a ticket. Following that queue up to go through airport type security check. Then queue up again for the boat. The queues are never single file. Be mindful when you get ON BOARD the boat as they have more of make shift boarding platform which wobbles a lot during rough waves. Whilst we were boarding a lady tripped and got little hurt. The boat takes hundreds or people in one go and they ride roughly one every 15-20 minutes. You get a good view of the skyline throughout the ride. The boat is equipped with food and drink, obviously at a premium price. The island is good to go around and take pictures. You need to buy separate ticket if you wish to enter into the pedestal. The island closes around 5 PM and the boat frequency drastically reduces then. So plan and have a good time.
