Szechuan House

If you are looking for Americanized Chinese food, this is not what you are looking for. They have a menu that includes chicken feet, pork kidneys, intestines and other things that one usually sees only at real Chinese restaurants. Service is fast and food is tasty. Spicy dishes are pleasantly hot (a solid "medium.") This is one of the places where the many Asian University students go to eat.

I do not typically write reviews or give feedback because I don’t expect much, but this was one of the most disappointing meals we have ever had. Got a whole bowl of hot peppers skins and 6 shrimp, my wife got a bowl of hot peppers and beans. And the the real sad part is, as bad as the shrimp and beans were, the dish was not even spicy.( imagine a whole bowl of just red peppers skins with 6 shrimp. ) I will say one good thing is they were fast, we got our meal within 20 minutes. Not good. ☹️

This is a re-review, and a response to a review a week ago who claimed he got "a bunch of peppers and bit of shrimp". The food I had the other day was good, it wasn't fu**ing fantastic. It wasn't so good that I had to call Beijing and demand monuments and medals, but it was damn good compared to other places around. My response to the aforementioned review is this: deal with it. Dishes from Sichuan are often more pepper than meat, as a matter of fact most foreign dishes are not mostly meat like American's are used to. The previous reviewer is a great example of how review-based ecosystems can't work, his experience, even if the service was bad should have garnered 3-stars at the very lowest. Please don't give your local, few-and-far-between ethnic restaurants a 1 or two star rating unless you left literally ablaze or sick. Szechuan House gets 5 stars from me, changed from my 3 star rating, because you are in fact the best, and only full-spectrum Sichuan restaurant in the area.

Horrible service. Was delivered the wrong order and when we called to have them fix it they refused. Called them again and they said they would bring us the correct order in 45 mins and we would return the incorrect one. 2 hours later and we still haven’t received our CORRECT order. I’ve called 4 times in the last hour and they keep saying the driver is 5 mins away but that was 45 mins ago. This was very unprofessional and I am truly displeased with the service I received today. I will not be ordering from here again.

Best Chinese food in Iowa City. Definitely higher quality than your average Chinese takeout joint. Recommend the red curry, it’s pretty great.
