The Montana Club Restaurant

The food was basically good. Service was basically good, but we waited a long time to order, then a long time for food, and then a long time to get the check. I didn’t realize that when there are 8 or more they have a mandatory %18 gratuity!! I always tip %10 and round up to the nearest dollar. If food/service is exceptional, I will do more. %18 is just way too much, especially when it’s higher menu pricing anyway. The birthday special is nice, but I will not go back or subject my family/friends to the mandatory %18 gratuity.

Passing through Great Falls and I need some lunch. What do I spy? The Montana Club, can’t go wrong there, right? Walked in, bellied up to the bar and had a Montana Club Organic Red, which was good. I also had the fish and chips special. Service was prompt, food was good.

My daughter and I stopped in for meal the day before Mother's day, they were very busy. We decided to come back for Mother's day dinner and the server remembered us from the day before and what type of wine we had :) Delicious food, excellent service, comfortable atmosphere. The Montana Club is my absolute favorite place to go!

I had their cod fish and chips. It was pretty good and I was filled. But there has always been one thing about the Montana club that has always made it lesser: The Cost. Montana Club is just expensive for the price you pay. It's overpriced. They provide nothing exceptional that invites such a price tag. Overlooking it all it's a good meal and worth it if you are willing to pay more for food.

This was our forth time eating here. Normally I would give it 4 stars but tonight was a pretty big disappointment. Tonight we went there to celebrate our son’s 18th birthday. Service was less stellar than normal but that is not the cause for our dissatisfaction tonight. Shortly after arriving I made an excuse to step away from the table to inform someone that this evening was a very special occation for us. I let them know that I wasn’t looking for any kind of discount or complementary dessert or anything, I just wanted a certain desert delivered to the table at the completion of our meal and that it would be nice if whomever served it would mention his birthday. Not only did none of this happen but upon the competition of our meals we were completely ignored for some length of time. Once I did happen to flag someone down and order a desert it came after a long wait and without the refill of drinks we were expecting and rather needing at that point. We then had to wait a fairly ridiculous amount of time for the check. This was a Thursday night and we were seated around 5:30 so this can not be attributable to any kind of rush. Up until about 10 minuets before we left the place was perhaps 30 to 40% full and there seemed to be a goodly amount of servers. I am very disappointed and am thinking of discontinuing our patronage. At minimum we will be more choosy as to were we celebrate our next important date.
