For this assignment, I chose to examine the accessibility of the apartment building The View on High on North High Street. When first approaching the building, I realized that there are two entrances, at the front and in the parking garage. The front door to this building was not automatic, so it would definitely be difficult for a wheelchair user to get in through the front. However, each entrance provided a staircase as well as an elevator to accommodate individuals that need wheelchairs. The next thing I noticed was that every individual apartment required an actual key to unlock it. I have seen that in many other apartments you only need a key fob which would be a lot easier and stress-free for someone who is blind. In addition, when I entered an apartment, I noticed immediately that someone in a wheelchair would have an extremely difficult time in many aspects of their living situation here at The View on High. First, the walkway from the living room to the kitchen is very narrow, causing the kitchen table to take up majority of it. There is certainly not enough room for someone in a wheelchair to get through. Next, the closets in each of the rooms are not very accessible, as the shelves are way too high for someone in a wheelchair or even someone that is not very tall. I am an average height and cannot reach the shelf, so I can imagine this being very difficult for most people, especially those who use wheelchairs. Lastly, the showers in every bathroom of the apartment were not at all accessible for wheelchair users. Being that it is a bathtub, someone who gets around in a wheelchair would not be able to bathe independently. If the bathrooms instead had walk-in, wheelchair accessible bathtubs, it would better satisfy the needs of someone with a disability. Overall, I think that this apartment building could have done a better job making sure that this was accessible for anyone and everyone.
I saw that the previous tenant had a dog living in the room when I toured The View and there were pee stains all over the carpet - smelled horrible. Leasing manager assured me the previous tenants will be charged for carpet replacement and upon me moving in months later, the carpets were still gross. IMPOSSIBLE to reach management for any issues and finally after disputing to the office several times they finally "cleaned" the carpets. Smell was better but stains were still everywhere. They charged me at the end of my lease for "carpet replacement" along with $700 of "cleaning" while I have proof of their inaccurate charges. Went back to my old unit after moving out and met the people that live there now - carpets are still not replaced... Save yourself the frustration and robbery and DO NOT LEASE HERE!
Do not move here. They will keep your security deposit. We moved in an apartment with stained carpeting and mold in the showers. We documented all of this with pictures upon move in. We were assured we would not be charge for these items at the end of the lease. They charged us for both items upon move out. Sample photo below is carpet stain which was there before we moved in.
This review is in follow up to The View on High keeping our security deposit. We have reached out multiple times over the last month as advised with no one responding. We have advised them we are now seeking legal advice with continued zero response from anyone. In the meantime, they have kept over $900 of our security deposit for an apartment that was cleaned and left in good condition. Do not rent with Hometeam Properties unless you want to lose your $1000 security deposit. If you have had similar issues with your security deposit, please reach out for legal advice as we are considering a class action lawsuit for illegally keeping security deposits similar to the one against NorthSteppe Realty.
Fun place to live if your a college student. Lived here for a year then moved to Highline on nine, terrible mistake. The view came with better quality rooms, better management and more amenities.
Not the quality they are advertised as.
