I traveled down for an urgent care extraction due to a broken tooth. They take 4’people on Tues and Thursdays at 8 am and 1 pm. It’s a first come first served visit. I paid $77 for the initial examination. The extraction, intramural Periapical, Panoramic radiographic image and it also covered my X-ray needed to complete the procedure. The student I was resigned to was from the Dominican Republic and was very strong and used precision pulling techniques! A second student both from 3rd year class assisted her and the Dentist does consult thru the stages. Bravo for not much pain at all… so far. About 1/2 the cost of the local dentist.
Plan on 2 or 3 hours for basic service and a cleaning. Well worth it, service is top notch. All the latest and best equipment. Better x-rays than I got when I had top notch insurance and payed more as a copay than the cash price at UNE. Most appointments pediatric side will be a second year and a third year student teamed up with a dude older and wiser than Yoda overseeing the whole deal.
So I want to start with I know it’s a school and they’re students. But I’ve been trying to finish all my dental work with them for over 2 years. At one point they canceled 2 appointments without telling me, then for almost a full year they kept telling me “this semester is full, contact us in X months during the next semester.” So I would and for the same answer. Don’t bother trying to call them because the receptionist’s do NOT answer the phone. I’ve tried calling well over 15 times in one day without a single answer and it’s happened multiple times. Then on top of that when I finally made it back in for appointments they changed the student who had been working on my teeth and the new student was overly rough, and after hearing his professor say “the work you’ve done is passing, but next time try…..” he waited till the professor to walk away and started re working my tooth like a art project, taking over 3 hours for a single filling and leaving other teeth in pain and my gum line exposed. Now because I missed a third appointment in 7 months, one was a blizzard, and another was a family emergency they dropped me as a patient and refused to work with me. This place doesn’t care about patients in the least. If I could rate the professionalism, flexibility, and quality of the work a 0 out of 5 stars I would. Again, I get it’s students learning, and I was more then patient and never complained until I got a call the day before my next appointment telling me I’m being dropped as a patient.
First, I do understand that it’s s school and the students are there to learn. When I made my appointment it was for a cleaning and x-rays. However, when I got to my appointment, it was not what I was told. I expect it to be longer than an appointment at a regular dentist office. However, when I arrived, they told me it would be a four hour appointment then still they might not have time for the cleaning. I wasn’t going to sit there for a four hour appointment and still may not get a cleaning. I certainly am not going to pay them for something I wasn’t going to receive. I thanked the student and professor and decided to leave. None of this was explained to me over the phone and it’s nowhere on their website. If I knew I would had paid the extra to go to a regular dental practice. Which I’ll now do.
I went in this morning for their urgent walk in care. They all greeted me and talked me through every step. I told them I was nervous and experience a lot of anxiety when it comes to dental work. They reassured me that they would do everything in their power to help me be pain free by the end of the visit and they were right!! I have never felt better at a dentist than I did there, we chatted about our home life to keep the mood calm and not so professional. I had students working on me and I would’ve never known that they were only students if they didn’t tell me in the beginning. Before moving onto any next steps they double checked with both of the dentists who were around the room. I had to receive a root canal due to the severity of the pain and localization. I swear it was completely pain free even hours after leaving their office! I had a root canal before and was sore getting it and days following. 10/10 for a relaxed, judgement free zone. I’m ecstatic I found a dentists office I don’t have to worry about going to. Thank you UNE and the great guys who worked on me today
Best dental experience I've had like ever, The people I had we're incredible, they were gentle and so caring 10/10 service
Staff and students are nice, but despite taking 4 hours, teeth were not completely clean my teeth have no issues and require very little cleaning. Had to call 6 months later to get x-rays sent over to a professional dental office for spouse's emergency dental work, and staff/student never did answer the phone. I weep for the future.
What a wonderful place this is! I absolutely love the student Jess Guter I am assigned to! She is the best! Knowledgeable, and welcoming, and.. She loves Classic Rock music! I had an appointment today and Zach was partnering with Jess to assist with my procedure. Although I met him for the first time today, he made me feel so comfortable! I find myself looking forward to my next appointments!! I would very much recommend UNE Oral Health Center.
For routine care there is generally no problem except with scheduling and billing. For more difficult care there are many problems. These I find to be more with the dental staff and not so much the students. There does not seem to be a standard of care and each dentist the student works with has their own opinion and way of treating. Over time this can cause a great deal of difficulty with procedures such as a crown. I do not think my family will continue to be treated here though we have since the Dental School clinic opened. I also have to say I have never seen anyone at this place wash their hands or use sanitizer and only very infrequently change gloves, though I would think they must and I will try to observe this.
The students are wonderful! I love getting my preventative care taken care of here. Everyone is so helpful and the clinic is very clean! I'm always impressed. The prices are great too! I don't have dental insurance, so this is a great option for lower fees.
