We went to the environmental justice day event and we're well fed, entertained and educated. The food was supplied by a local caterer and they even had a vegetarian version for my partner. The entertainment, when we were at the stage, included a high school Mariachi band and native drum circle. We had a hay bail ride tour of the area and saw an area that had not been left fallow and the plans far wetlands development in action. Thank you for the amazing experience.

We loved it. It is less than 15 minutes from Downtown ABQ but a world away. There are some homes around the perimeter but they are on large lots and not jammed together like a suburb. The homes have horse stables and you will see horses riding along the Bosque trail right through the Wildlife Refuge. We took our doggies but they stayed calm and didn't try to go after any animals. We saw cranes, ducks, geese and lots of other birds, lizards and some small furry things that scampered off, probably chipmonks. The refuge is still a work in progress - it used to be a dairy, but now it is in the process of restoring the original vegetation around the site. It was so calm and peaceful, although a few planes passed right overhead. But that doesn't bother me. They come and go quickly. Although there were some cars in the parking lot closest to 2nd Street, we only encountered one couple on horses, then no one else right in the Bosque itself. We sat along the river and had a picnic. It was bliss. I highly recommend it if you want a quick escape from the City, and from the trail and the "inner" parking lot, there are amazing views of the mountains, the farms and horse ranches and the Bosque itself. Go. You'll be glad you did.

The refuge manager Jennifer is an educated young woman who is passionate about the refuge and the upcoming project. It's great to see how the improvements will bring a lot more new fauna to the south valley and I can't wait. Kudos to her and her team.
