VEN-ELGER PET CARE CENTER

We visited Ven-Elger at the end of May to pick up our newly adopted dog who had traveled up from LA. He had to be quarantined here for 48 hours before we could take him home. Pick up time was on a Monday night. We got there a few minutes before and there were already a ton of people there to pick up their own adopted dogs. The staff here were super organized and very efficient in getting the right dogs to their new owners. They were also good with keeping the dogs calm, as some were pretty squeamish after the long trip, including our own. A man working there was able to pick up our new dog and calm him down. He was extremely nice and very patient.

My rescue dog was quarantined at Vem-Roger and I appreciated their care of Harper. The transition was extremely smooth as was the pick-up process.

I have boarded my GS since she was a puppy at Ven-elger, she is now 4 years old. Two weeks ago I made a reservation to board her for a week and I asked them to call the Vet to make sure she was up to date on her shots. We planned to leave the country today for our ONLY 1 week vacation and yesterday I received a call from a VERY rude man to inform me he had just called for her records from the vet and that she had not received her bordetella. Their policy requires 20 days prior to boarding for the vaccination. No apology!! OMG!! I had no place to take her at such a late date. My vet assured me that I could get the vaccination that same day if I could find another place to board. Our vacation was almost ruined. If they have the 20 day policy they should have informed me when I made the reservation!!! But they didn't. They waited until the last minute. I will never take any pet there again, and I hope anyone reading this will MAKE SURE THEY HAVE THE BORDETELLA VACCINE 20 DAYS PRIOR OR THEY WILL BE OUT OF LUCK!! ps. I finally found a place 30 miles away who had room for my dog..vacation plans and $$$$ saved. (I wouldn't have given them 1 star, but in order to post I had to. They deserve NO STARS

So disappointed! My Persian has been going to Van-Elgers for years to be groomed. Despite all the rumors and how rude the idiot is that answers the phone, I continued to bring my cat there until today. Leo is the rudest, most ignorant man I've ever encountered. I was 10 minutes late so I was already given an attitude. Then he tells me, I told you to bring in her update rabies vaccine. He never told me anything. Then took off to get my cat and said if she scratches anyone I'm putting her in quarantine for 10 days. You idiot, she's a Persian she doesnt go outside and secondly if you weren't such an idiot, her vet could've faxed over her updated records. They literally haven't asked for her records in 3 years. Last few years it's been all cash transactions, I should've known what kind of place Van Elgers was turning into. The woman was so sweet who ran it before now this idiot is running the place. I ignored the rumors around town and had the attitude well yeah he's rude but the groomer does a great job. If you're not happy, retire!

We boarded our two dogs here recently for a couple of days. Within the first 24 hrs we had a call from the boarders saying that our dogs had gotten into a fight and one ended up with a large cut on her ear. It was quite large in fact and took several days to heal and it didn't appear that the center had done much to clean and care for the wound when we picked the dogs up. There was also no offer to discount the boarding cost due to the incident. Without knowing the full circumstances, it's inappropriate to assign too much blame but we've boarded these same two dogs with several other boarders for longer periods and never experienced this kind of problem. These dogs get along very well and only fight each other under the most extreme of circumstances.The center's facilities otherwise seemed clean and well-kept but this incident has unfortunately left a stigma.
