This museum was absolutely fantastic!! I was so impressed with the realistic exhibits. It was so informative. Very clean. The technology was amazing. The Ghosts show was just incredible. The people who worked here were kind and knowledgeable. The restaurant was clean. The gift shop was very large with a wide variety of souvenirs from which to choose. We came on a school field trip and had a wonderful time.
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum was surprisingly very interesting. They had a couple of interactive theaters that lasted around 15-17 minutes each. An exhibit of how they thought Abraham was raised. That exhibit has a fun scavanger hunt. They have an exhibit of different presidents and their history. And, of course, the political life of Abraham Lincoln all of the way to his assassination. I would suggest calling ahead if you would like a group tour. Otherwise, you are welcome to walk in and pay. They don't allow food, drink, or gum. I would say to take a good 4 hours here soaking it all in. They do have a gift shop with interesting little things to buy like huckleberry syrup.

This presidential museum blew my mind! What an unusual and fascinating place. Detailed and amazing dioramas of Lincoln's life from childhood on, beautifully done. Each section is powerful and thought provoking. I really enjoyed the one from Lincoln's office and his rambunctious sons overall I was moved emotionally. So much information and you learn it all by experience and involvement. I can truly say I am not the same person I was before I visited. Highly recommended!
Excellent museum! Great job portraying the life of Lincoln in a realistic way. The exhibits are thoughtful and well done. The two theater experiences should not be missed; they are so good! The staff was knowledgeable and super nice. Give yourself 3-4 hours to get through it without rushing. It was an amazing experience overall! I highly recommend a visit.
One of my favorite places to visit in central Illinois. My wife and I carried our 2 grandsons 12 and 8 years old and they loved it. Mitch Adams is our favorite volunteer. He loves Lincoln and sharing knowledge with others about this great museum and library. Well worth the trip.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
It’s almost impossible to find fault with this Illinois treasure. Intimate and Immersive with history. .The greatest President ever and savior of the United States. His immortal words will teach forever . Huge kudos to those that safeguard this very special place.
I really wasn't expecting the museum to entertain my grandkids 16, 13, 7, 6 but it did. They loved it. Great presentation and great volunteers!!!!
This is the best museum I can remember ever visiting. Every exhibit is very well done and has a variety of ways of displaying the information plaques to read, audio info, videos, etc. It’s really easy to leave from there feeling that you really got to know Lincoln as a person and as a President. I liked that they included the negatives about him and his life, rather than just the glowing positives, as you got to know what he might have actually been like, as a human. We started out in the Research Library with just a quick walk around the main lobby, as we were informed that most of that building is a working research library, and not open to the public without permits. The security guard that greeted us at the door, Len Jackson, was so kind and professional. He was also very enthusiastic about his love for the museum and highly recommended we start our museum visit by watching the “ghost film”. I am so glad we met Len! Our time was limited at the museum, and we usually skip the movies in those scenarios, but the “ghost film” first film to the right as you enter the museum was well worth the ten minutes. It was fascinating and had fun special effects. I would also highly recommend this one for children and teens as it emphasizes why it’s important to learn history. I can’t say enough good things about this museum. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The building itself is classy, pristine, and beautiful. The “Journey 1” and the “Journey 2” areas of the museum were so well done. I wish we had had more time to really explore every exhibit. Excellent museum.
There's no better place to learn about the life of Abe Lincoln than at this museum. I would recommend it for families or school groups. Personally, the ideal minimum age is probably around 10+ as getting the most out of each exhibit requires patience and reading. My boys are a bit younger and it was tough for them to stay focused till the end. Any weather conditions are fine because the museum is entirely indoors. It was pouring rain during our visit; the staff was kind enough to offer plastic bags to house each of our wet umbrellas. Don't bother bringing food or drinks in. They won't allow them, but if you forget you can rent a locker for a quarter. You should allocate 3-4 hours of time here in order to enjoy each exhibit and both theatre shows. Keep an eye out for the Abe Lincoln impersonator that will occasionally pop out and roam around. He's happy to greet you and discuss anything from his life, including his wrestling career!! You won't regret your visit here.
