"...reaching toward the enigmatic nature of being..."

Description

The Aidron Duckworth Art Museum is a unique venue for the arts located in the village of Meriden, NH. The museum presents the explorative art and writings of the British-American modernist Aidron Duckworth (1920-2001) as well as the works of contemporary regional artist in four changing exhibitions that take place yearly. June through October there is also a Sculpture on the Grounds exhibit that makes use of Duckworth’s former gardens.
Admission is free. Donations are greatly appreciated.
We are handicap accessible.

The museum is located in the former town schoolhouse where Duckworth made his home from 1976 until 2001. The building has been modified with modern galleries and a sculpture park on the grounds. Duckworth’s former studio and living area is open for visitors and public receptions. In addition, the Aidron Duckworth Art Museum buildings and grounds are available for community exhibitions and events, and has been used in the past by the Meriden Public Library and the New Hampshire Council on the Humanities as well as for the Town History exhibition (Aug. 12-Sept. 4, 2011) and ‘Service to the Birds’ exhibition (Aug. 24-Sept. 15, 2013).

Mission

Aidron Duckworth was a teacher for the entirety of his adult life; the last 25 years of which were spent living, creating, and teaching art in the Upper Valley. By displaying the works of other contemporary artists alongside the works and writings of Duckworth, the Aidron Duckworth Art Museum perpetuates the creation of innovative art displayed in a non-commercial setting. Many of the Aidron Duckworth Art Musuem’s guest artists were once students of Duckworth’s who have now developed their own unique means of expression. This resulting juxtaposition of artists, mediums, and genres stimulates artistic dialogue, and enriches the surrounding community by providing a venue for artistic exploration and innovation.
