Description

Plantation Number 4 (now Charlestown, NH) was the northernmost and westernmost township within the British Colonies here in North America from 1735 until 1761. Due to its location at the edge of the woods, and its townspeople, Number 4 held a distinctive position in the Colonies, and had an unusual relationship with Amerindians people of the Connecticut River Valley.

Today, the Fort at No. 4 attempts to bring to life the story of the conflicts, trials, clash and co-mingling of cultures because "[w]e understand now, (...) embrace the understanding... that who we are *is* who we were".

The Fort at No. 4 is and independent, open air museum. That is, the museum does not receive State or Federal support. It is a 501(c)3 non-profit as well as 509(a)2 charitable entity.

Open seasonally May through the first weekend of November with special off season activities, the museum attempts to engage visitors with living history events, educational tours, workshops, lectures, and static displays.
