The Barkhamsted Historical Society is a non-profit, all volunteer organization working to preserve and share the history and culture of the Connecticut town of Barkhamsted. Our Society was founded in 1968.
The Barkhamsted Historical Society is working to preserve and share the history and culture of the Connecticut town of Barkhamsted. In these pages we hope to share with you information, sights and flavors of Barkhamsted, past and present.
The goal of the Society is to preserve and disseminate the history and culture of the Town of Barkhamsted for current and future residents of the Town and for those who have an interest in Barkhamsted history. Objectives of the Society include:
1) To locate, procure and preserve documents, maps, pictures, relics, articles, craft skills and methods pertaining to the history and to the citizens of Barkhamsted.
2) To maintain and display for the public benefit and education a collection of historic items which have been and may be acquired by the Society through gift or purchase.
3) To identify, mark and seek to preserve such buildings, locations, and objects as are of historical interest within the area, and generally to work to preserve the natural and historic beauty of Barkhamsted from defilement and pollution.
4) To record and preserve those facts and traditions which now repose in the minds of our citizens.
5) To record current history for the benefit of future generations of Barkhamsted.
6) To gather, edit, publish and circulate information relating to the aforesaid objectives of this Society.
7) To arrange for the suitable observance of National, State and Town anniversaries, most particularly that of the incorporation of the Town of Barkhamsted, September tenth.
