In 1910, CLP–Homewood opened. It was one of the largest and best endowed Carnegie Libraries in the country, and the last library Carnegie built in Pittsburgh. This three-story neighborhood location is equipped with a large collection of materials, spacious reading rooms and meeting spaces, and a 300-seat auditorium recently renovated; the public can rent for events!, and has been serving the community for over 100 years. Plans are underway to bring the exterior back to its original splendor in May 2023. Fully ADA compliant.
Gorgeous building with nice old architecture too gawk at. Inside the library is divided into 3 spaces. The one I spent the most time I was the kids selection which had a selections of puzzles out that I think rivaled the squirrel hill library. In addition to the puppets, legos, marble game to name a few there were ipads with games loaded on to them for younger kids. The staff was all very friendly and all three little ones I was with got Christmas presents from Santa's little helper, the librarian. They were a selection of age appropriate books on kindness caring and a comic type chapter book for the oldest. So very surprised by that and really happy we finally stopped in.
Very good nice and quiet the staff is extremely friendly and helpful highly appreciated and strongly recommended to visit.
Such a great place to go to get the books that you need and want. If it's not there Ray or Denise will gladly order it for you. Also great place to go to just sit and be quiet and read. It's now open so if you have a small group that you need to have a meeting place for there's usually a area in the library where you can meet with them. Stop by and enjoy the great experience Interested in a senior reading group feel free to stop by the library in Homewood and tell him that I sent you
Free and not zoned, time limited parking on the streets around the building.
Great facility. The basement auditorium is great for these types of public meetings. It is wired for sound, has a stage, and a audio control booth. Of course the library is one of the things that makes Pittsburgh great. Never need to buy a book again.
Rachel in the children’s department at the Homewood library is the apidimi of exception. She made me feel so good today. It is very obvious that she loves her job and loves serving the community of Homewood. If you ever meet her in person you will see for yourself. I just had a phone call with her and I can only imagine what it would be like to meet her in person. Thank you so much Rachel!
The staff are professional but also personable. They make you feel more like a close friend than just a customer.
Lovely building, staff are helpful. Always a pleasure to visit.
Part of the wonderful Carnegie Library system of Pittsburgh. This Library is a jewel, reminds me of a library when I was very young. A great place for you to take little kids, just the right atmosphere.
