Be warned unless you have 100% free health care stay AWAY. I came here for my son's broken leg, in short they had some of his personal info wrong due to a typo, and when they submitted to insurance it was declined because of said typo didn't match his personal info. I brought it up to them and they assured me they were fixing it. I trusted them, that was a mistake. Someone else picked up the info at children's and sent it to collections. I've had absolutely perfect credit for 23+ year until children's. They are absolutely a horrible place and are destroying my credit and don't care one bit. When I call them about it they say there is nothing they can do. Risk vs reward, 100% of the risk is on you. STAY AWAY. In reference to the response, I did call patient relations and they took notes and sounded genuinely caring. They were going to get back to me a few days ago, and no one did.
Our Nurses Hannah and Pahoua were some of the kindest people we’ve encountered. After 7+ hours of being in hospitals and ambulance rides, we were starving! The cafe was closed, so they brought us some snacks from their own personal stash! The neuro scientist was also amazing! He explained our MRI and brought us so much piece of mind! After coming from Theda in Appleton, this place was a giant breath of fresh air! We can’t thank the staff enough!
I have had nothing but excellent experiences with my daughter's care at Children's! She has been a patient since her NICU stay, and has a cluster of various health conditions meaning we spent much of her early years in check-ups and follow-ups. Each and every one of her specialists cardio, neuropsych, neurosurgery, functional rehab, urology, gastroenterology, etc. and nurses have been incredible. We truly feel we are in the best hands. This is not to say you can sit back and assume things will all be smooth sailing regardless of facility. We are strong advocates for our daughter, and have had to request evaluations we felt were necessary for her particular situation. However, we know that these evaluations would have been done later in life - we simply chose to go through them early to give her the best "toolbox" for growing up strong and supported. I will ALWAYS recommend CHW to anyone who needs medical specialists for their children.
Absolute crooks!! I went there for my son’s MRI 1 year ago and they charged us on our credit card for $7000 up front, even though it was an emergency. After our insurance company paid them, they STILL have not issued us a refund. I have been calling them, along with my insurance company representative, demanding our money back that we deserve, and we have gotten nothing. I’ve been following up for literally a year. It’s so painful- to make an already difficult situation so financially difficult when it doesn’t have to be is absolutely evil. This hospital is the absolute WORST.
My apologies for the length of this review however, there were so many things wrong with this place. tldr: Find another place to give birth. If you're still thinking about it, read our opinion of the experience as I hope nobody else will have to go through the same. We arrived to the hospital after my wife's water broke and met by the night shift where our nurse, Emily, was the only positive part of the experience. She was extremely personable and present while we were getting set up in the delivery room. 1 As soon as the turnover happened to day shift, everything turned very .. academic and there was no regard for my wife and I's birth plan. As an example, the very first comment from the new doctor was "I think we're going to having a C-Section today" without any explanation. When questioning why, we were challenged by the new nurse "Can you tell us why you don't want one?". After informing her we understood it was a major procedure she just agreed and the conversation ended. 2 After my wife expressed she didn't want Pitocin multiple times, the nurse showed up ~30 minutes later to hook her up and put her on the lowest dose without explaining anything which as the least is extremely disrespectful in not communicating what was happening, regardless if it was needed. 3 My wife's contractions from Pitocin were significant, and our baby's heart rate started to drop, at times below 60bpm. Unlike the night shift, nobody would enter the room with any sense of urgency leaving my wife and I to troubleshoot by ourselves by switching positions, which was a trending theme throughout her labor. 4 My wife was continually told we'd likely just need to do a C-Section and nurse's visits became less frequent even with our baby's heart rate dropping. 5 After ~12 hours of labor, my wife had informed the nurse that she had to push and she said she would get a doctor. The nurse returned 15 minutes later and didn't say anything, just working on her chart in the room. After we told her two more times times over the course of 30 minutes, she finally went to get a doctor. 6 After everyone was mostly absent as part of the labor process, suddenly there were ~9 people at least 4 doctors, 3 nurses, a student, one we didn't know even know who they were just standing in the room while our child's heartrate was significantly dropping again as they talked to eachother. Finally a nurse we hadn't worked with stepped in and moved my wife to raise our baby's heart rate prior to my wife pushing and giving birth. 7 After delivery, it was a constant revolving door of people every couple hours including through the night with each new face asking the same 5-6 questions about our child. 8 There was a real emphasis on what to do with circumcisions and discouraging families to have one Posters, Flyers, surveys, etc. which we just thought was extremely strange and pushy. 9 Someone came in - we don't even know what her title was but asked about our experience. When we started telling her, we were told something similar to "Well this is a learning hospital so you should expect that" and we just ended the conversation. 10 We were discharged and not asked to fill out any paperwork about our child which we both thought was odd but told everything was taken care of. We later discovered they did nothing to submit the paperwork to Vital Records and a month later our child is "Unnamed" without a Father listed in the state system and nobody knows how any of that happened. This now requires us to make several trips and appointments at the court house to have this issue resolved and we cannot obtain a birth certificate or social security card until it's fixed.
I wasted hours in the neuro clinic waiting and waiting for the doctor to appear and answering the same old questions which they should not ask anymore because i have answered them many times in the past and the answers can be found in my son’s medical history if they care to read it. They said nothing new, did nothing for the supposed “neuro test” appointment, I learned nothing new from them. Everything was a waste. What a disappointment. I would be so surprised if they charge us a fee for wasting our time!
One of the worst healthcare staffs I have ever experienced. Rude receptionists, deceitful nurses. Most of the doctors I have encountered on behalf of my daughter were very short and seemed like they couldn’t care less. All felt like they were just in it for the payday. Can’t wait to see the astronomical bill. Gotta love healthcare in the USA, where you are basically choosing which places sucks the least.
As a mother and a nurse, I cannot recommend this facility, our experiences here were absolutely awful. Administration should be ashamed of themselves for how they respond to the severe issues regarding poor patient care, medication errors, dishonest billing practices and performing procedures without proper, informed consent.
Sad that this is the only hospital my child can go to. I wish there were more options. I have to be the nurse doctor and parent every stay. I never leave her bedside because I’m unsure of the care she will get when they walk in and out the room n my face n refuse to properly care for my child. I’m a cna of ten years and even if a family member is present I would never refuse to assist a parent patient. Here a lot of care partners and nurses get away with they poor skilled nursing due to the under staffing issue and that’s ridiculous
This hospital is amazing! Dr. Van Valin and his staff are amazing. My child had their 3rd surgery this week and everything from the communication in the operation room to getting us ready to go home. When the first initial injury happened I drove 20 min from the hospital that we were closest too because i refused to let my child be seen at a regular hospital. I will never take my children to any hospital but children's. . Mom and Dad are happy!
