Camped here, hiked here, filmed a movie here with permits of course and literally have nothing bad to say! The rangers and staff are informative, accommodating, and friendly. Glen is a fantastic park superintendent. The trails are well marked and good for any level, but especially beginner/intermediate hikers. The campsite was lovely. We used one of the new designated hammock sites and it worked great. Hiked to the top of Kings mountain and it took us roughly an hour. Had lunch at the top while enjoying some amazing views!
You might find it helpful, if you are a professional hiker: To take the most advantage of this beautiful state park i recommend to do these: 1. Park your car at "Linwood Access Parking Lot" Not Visitor center. 2. Then start hiking the "Backside trail" [orange blazer] it's not an easy hike at all! be prepared 0.8. mile and 1000' elevation. 3. Then take the "Rocktop trail" [red blazer], pass the tower and hike for almost 1.5 miles. 4. Continue hiking until you reach to a cross road, one of them goes to the visitor center, one goes back to the "Linwood Access Parking Lot" [white blazer] where you parked your car. it's a moderate trail and steep gradually, hike for 2.8 miles and you will get to your car: * if you are not a professional hiker and you want to a have a fun hike; take the "Backside trail" [orange blazer], enjoy the overlook and make a turn and do not continue hiking to make a loop. ** Again, it's not an easy hike and there are many sharp edges on the cliff, please be careful. *** See detail on the trail map attached to this review.
Very rigorous trail but could be the most incredible hike I've been to in the greater Charlotte area. Amazing views once you hike up the steep inclines and rocky trails. At some points it's hard to distinguish the trail from the boulders. Definitely bring a lot of water and expect to be out for 2-3 hours. Restrooms: Bathrooms, water stations, and picnic areas are available at the trailhead and visitor center. Dog-friendliness: The trailhead has a drinking station for your pets.
Gentle and tough hike at Crowders mountain and The pinnacle mountain, the hike is tough but the reward is just splendid both mountains have wonderful views and there's lots to see around, saw two black bears running on the side of the woods it did got me a little creeped out also watch out for snakes almost staped on a rattle snake. The hike is tough and brings plenty of water and a spare shirt trust me you're gonna need it, bring some nice hiking shoes the trail is brutal on the feet, get a map or use alltrails there's many trails and you don't want to get lost, keep your self hidrated and stay safe, I do mean it don't get too close to the cliffs. Restrooms: They are clean and right there at the parking lot Dog-friendliness: Saw many people with nice big and small dogs.
Crowder Mountain State Park is a great place for a nature walk. It's also a wonderful place to spend a few hours challenging yourself with a walk to the top of the mountain. The park has several trails to take you to the top of the mountain, with the White Diamond trail being the longest. There are challenges for every fitness level. Be sure to take plenty of water. Our team members drank about three bottles each during the trip up and back down the mountain. And when you get to the top, the view is beautiful. There is plenty of free parking where the trails start. There are also bathrooms at the start as well. Please remember to throw all trash in the proper containers. There are trash cans provided along each trail. Restrooms: Restrooms are at the start of the trail only. Dog-friendliness: Some areas may be challenging for dogs, but generally, it is pet friendly terrain.
Had a great time hiking this trail! The hike itself is not too challenging, but it's pretty steep. The trail is very lively, so expect to see people of all ages hiking. The views are amazing once you reach the top. You'll have plenty of places to sit and take in the beautiful scenery!
Crowders Mountain is truly an exceptional journey that you need in your life. I’ve been here a couple times now. If you’re looking for a shorter way up, take the Linwood access. But if you want a hefty hike, take sparrow Springs access. Bring water & snacks to stay nourished! 10/10
The campsites are very nice. The restrooms are decent for what they are. The firewood access at the campgrounds is very nice and very reasonably priced. There are a lot of hiking options for different skill levels.
We had a great day here. There is a lovely visitor's center at the trailhead with educational displays, and a easy loop for folks with small kiddos or mobility challenges. The summit hike gets your heart pumping without being too challenging, and you're rewarded with great views and fun scrambles.
Several different access points to chose from. Trails are well maintained! Had access to the water for the kids to play in, seating areas benches throughout the trails. Fishing lake. Beautiful area!
