This is my first time here and is a good place to enjoy nature. It has hiking trails, camping, fishing, little museum about its rich history. I would definitely recommend anyone who wants to get away for the weekend.
Clean and lovely lake-front park with a swimming pool, camping, kayak rentals, boat ramp, walking trails, bridal trails, small museum, and a great view from the top of a small mountain. It's dog-friendly, there are plenty of picnic tables, the restrooms are clean, and all the facilities that I saw were even handicap-accessible.
Mount Morrow State Park Located in Albemarle, NC in the Uwharrie Forest. A little history-- -600 million years ago, this mountain was part of a collection of volcanic islands. -10k+ years ago, the mountains were inhabited by Sapona, Saura, & Catawba indians who used the nearby Yadkin and Pee Dee Rivers to transport the tools they made from the Rhyolite stone. -Europeans colonized the area in the 1700s and the park opened in 1939. It is named for James McKnight Morrow who donated 1000+ acres. This park offers 14 different trails of varying intensities with most being considered easy or moderate. There is one strenuous trail--the Sugarloaf Mountain Trail-- that you will definitely "feel" on the ascent with some parts of the trail seeming to be almost vertical, but you are able to catch some decent views near the top. Don't forget to save a reserve of energy though, because the hike back up Morrow Mountain Trail is another doozie, even though this trail is marked moderate. My suggestion is to keep your head down focused on your steps and don't pay attention to how much you have left to climb.Your calves and glutes are going to remind you of it anyways. You can also just drive up to the top to see some lovely panoramic views and perhaps enjoy a picnic or catch a sunrise in the winter months. #hiking #nature #getoutdoors #soloadventure Restrooms: The restrooms at the top of the mountain were very clean. Dog-friendliness: Dog friendly hiking location Picnic area: Several picnic tables and even a shelter at the top that has a fireplace
This is a lovely day trip to make if you’re anywhere within a couple hours away. The fall of course is one of the best times to visit, but we’ve been all seasons and it’s still beautiful. There’s a look out area and several trails. Some shorter trails and others that are longer. There are a few tables and a covered sheltered seating area. There are public restrooms and dogs are allowed.
Loving visiting this state park! My favorite thing here is to go kayaking and exploring the lake and it’s secrets! Kayaking is $10 an hour and comes with an orientation and you can buy water from the boathouse for the trip. I highly advise bringing some sunscreen because the lake is going to scorch you even if it’s windy. There are some secret spots you can explore and inlets/ rivers too. There are these hidden lakes that are pretty, you can always get closer to the dam and you can go down river to see the rest of the lake. There is a lot of lake to check out. The hiking trails they have are pretty great too and you can find them in different difficulty levels and ones that take a short time or a long time. There is also group camping, tent camping, primitive camping and RV camping so there are a lot of great things to do here.
Didn't have time to go far on the trail. But the short walk on the trail was nice. North Carolina mountains gets a thumbs up. Next time I will plan for a one hour hike. And everyone in the group brings the proper gear.
It is such a beautiful day to come see the views. The trail by the overlook are steep with an incline and no handrails, so just be careful. It’s a beautiful place for a picnic. We love coming here just for the day.
Mountains surround the beautiful park. The lake in the park is another attraction. People were enjoying and fishing.
Nice sunset view, but trees were mostly obstructing it. Didn't explore the trails as driving to the peak is possible. Parking is also available up there around the overlook. Restrooms: Clean restrooms.
Stunning! Totally worth the hike and if you're a fan of rock hunting there is a surprising variety in such a short hike up! Lots of wildlife and surprisingly not crowded
