Don and Sylvia Shaw have served as innovative forces in the beauty industry for more than 40 years. Through cutting edge educational contributions and their series of DASS salons and spas, the couple has created an enduring legacy in both hair and beauty.
Almost 20 years ago, the Shaws opened the first of six DASS salons, then known as Don and Sylvia Shaw Hairdressers. The name was changed to DASS by using the first letter of each word and dropping hairdressers. Their shared vision married exemplary service into a modern and fresh environment. The Shaw's' dedication to quality beauty care and their exceptionally trained staff quickly established DASS as a leading authority in Atlanta and amongst the city's top 10 salons.
Southern charm is a valuable commodity and Don Shaw has it in spades. Born and raised in the South, the charismatic and renowned hairstylist has a gift for story telling and successful business ventures. Tales aside, Shaw has been an international influence since the 1960s when he graduated from the Beauty School Academy in Tennessee and headed overseas to train with Vidal Sassoon in London and Caritas and Alexandre in Paris. His signature hairstyles have graced the pages of numerous fashion magazines, including Paris Vogue and the covers of Women's Wear Daily, Mademoiselle, and Harpers Bazaar.
Sylvia Shaw's career as a skin specialist has spanned more than 30 years, during which she has established a reputation as an industry leader. She began her extensive studies at Edith Serie's in Toronto, then traveled to New York to learn from Lydia Safarti, Mark Traynor Make Up Academy, and Douglas Marvaldi Makeup. Having trained comprehensively in esthetics, Shaw persued her passion for skin care by studying under acclaimed dermatologists Dr. Robert Fulton and Dr. Joel Gerson and qualifying as a para-medical aesthetician.
After years of translating her creative vision editorially, Shaw turned to beauty consulting: shaping the new anchor look for CNN and working with the Atlanta Surgical Orthodontic Association and top plastic surgeons. However, her most cherished endeavor is the on-going development and direction of the DASS spas. A dream come true for Shaw, she aims to infuse her spas with warmth and comfort while offering outstanding skin and body services.
