We stayed here the weekend of June 23. I'll give them three stars for effort, but when we were there, it was still very much a work in progress. Cabin KL02's lower bunk had no support beams under the mattress - something we discovered at bedtime. The repair had to wait until the next day, which they did very well. The lights and fans were also in a bit of disrepair, but they also got the lights to work that second day. On the up side, the fridge was clean, the hot water and kitchen worked and the master bed was fine. I will say they did a good job of communicating, but we kind of felt like we were doing research on the cabin for them for future guests. We did manage to have some fun and do some fishing, cooking and relaxing after things settled down, but because of the rocky start, we lost a night of truly enjoying it. There was also supposed to be a food truck event, but we blame the occasional rain for that. I hope they got the figurative bugs fixed since. We will definitely need to think before returning. UPDATE: Still no offer to make up for the first night in their response. We'll be looking elsewhere for a better customer experience.
We spent this past weekend there and we absolutely loved it! Extremely accommodating as we had to leave a day earlier then planned and they welcomed us hours earlier then check in to make up for that time we would have lost. Great people, great campsites! Our family needed that time to spend together. It was a pretty perfect weekend. Even the crazy thunder storm one night was fun! Can’t wait to see it when all the renovations are complete. Thank you, we will be back for sure!
Giving a 4 because the new owners are busily upgrading this resort... only owning it for a year. Our spot was huge with picnic table and fire ring. Nice and shady with beautiful trees. Only here for one night - passing through. We bought their firewood mandatory but it was not dry enough and mostly just smoked. We picked this place mostly because they advertised cable TV, only to find 2 channels and then they dropped off soon after leaving no TV. Not the worst that could happen. To their credit, the owner apologized and said they were having issues with the cable and gave us a credit for our stay. Many thanks. To sum it up... nice place, friendly people, and more upgrades to come so do give it a try! Oh, and a nice place to fish!!
First time staying here, we brought our travel trailer and had water and an electrical hookup. It’s in a beautiful area and the weekend vibe was nice. The bathrooms were clean but weirdly designer looking with glass tile that ultimately failed at the unfinished pine trim. That will not age well. Our campsite was really dirty, I did not see clean up crews inspecting the sites. I cleaned up about 40 beer tops and various paper and plastic; I filled up an entire bag. So I think they focus on the cabins and bathrooms. I did have issue with the golf carts. The brochure said it had to be rented by a licensed adult but there were kids driving them at top speed while honking and worse, there were kids standing on the back hooting and hollering. I was on a loop so it was a chosen speedway. I did hear the manager yell at one group but she can’t be everywhere at once. The river is nice, the tubing is gentle but it’s such a short ride it’s not really worth it. Staff are very friendly. Will deliver wood to site 10 a bundle. They are renovating their lodge so there is some construction noise on the weekend. I hear they want to put in a bar which will just ruin those sites next to it. They already have a noise/alcohol problem. There is a somewhat overgrown dog park. Don’t bother. Dumping station was good. I think they are trying to cater to the occasional urban camper and less to the RV community but I wish them luck with finding themselves.
This is a 2 bdrm cabin. Room on the left has 4 built in bed bunks, room on the right has 1 wall to wall queen size bed. Bathroom was updated and clean. Whole cabin felt clean. A few minor issues but overall a very nice space. We will be coming back.Rooms: 4/5
Cool camp - pool, on the river for tubing and wading, jump bubble for the kids and me . Staff was incredibly friendly! Camp Cafe was great for coffee and snacks. The bad? LOTS of city people. LOTS. The kind that don't like outsiders. I'll definitely be back, but not on a weekend. The city people's children overwhelmed the kids activities and weren't friendly to my kids, so that sucked. I had a cabin. Had AC that was too small to properly cool the cabin. Other than that, it was a great experience.
I went with my family and rented one of their cabins. Pros: - 20 min. from Walmart in case you forget an item - bathroom cabin was clean - conveniently close to the pool and office - views of the river are beautiful - clean campground all around - staff acknowledgement/response was very good - the fact that they are revamping the campground and adhering to customers concerns, a definite plus. Cons: - Staff needs to do a better job in cleaning the entire cabin and not just a small part of the cabin. We found old toys/ a bottle of water under the bed, Cobb webs, dust, dirt in the corners of the box frames which eventually can lead to mites and other critters to create a home base. The cleaners need to be supervised for sure. - stove top knob 1 of them was not working - uncomfortable to sleep in the bedroom because there was no fan. - the roads need to be asphalted/paved…. There were some gnarly potholes. - the pools filter was broken and the pool was dirty in the bottom and needed to be vacuumed. - easier access to the river would have been nice. Other than that I would visit again! I can’t wait to see the updated version of it and have a whole new experience and perspective! Great location.. with a lot of potential!
We had a tremendously good experience here; we stayed in the yurt right by the river, so it was very nice being able to wake up and have coffee right next to the water sounds, and to cook and eat dinner there as well. Floating down the river was fun and easy, too! Although I would recommend bringing your own float stuff if you have it, rather than renting - it's not cheap. Incredibly kid friendly and safe - we felt comfortable letting our 7 year old daughter roam the grounds with her friends. She loved the bounce pad and the mining/sifting setup as well. All the other campground residents were polite, and observed quiet hours, and were very friendly - someone even lent us a fire starter for our firepit! My only complaint was that the yurt water heater didn't work well for the shower, resulting in a short spray of very hot water, followed by nothing but cold - but the campground showers are private and worked great.
Used this campground as a stopover on the way to VA and the Blueridge Parkway. Seemed like there was a lot of people from NYC here in large groups. It was great to see so many people out enjoying this campground and having such a good time. We were pleasantly surprised that the guests observed the quiet hours. We expected more late night partying but not so. Sites were of all kinds, woodsy, in fields, group sites, riverfront sites etc. Staff was friendly and seemed to be patrolling often to help if necessary. Would have like to have spent a bit more time to check out the area, maybe another trip.
We had the best time camping here! The land itself is beautiful, spent a day in the crisp river. We saw families of geese and a deer roaming around, and they had two very sweet goats on site. The staff were so friendly and accommodating and the camp shop had almost every camp related thing you could need tip: buy the campfire colors packet. Bathrooms were well maintained and always had paper and soap. Plus it’s only 2 hours away from NYC? Will definitely camp again!
