The Department of Justice, Law and Society is committed to the scholar-teacher ideal. We strive to create knowledge that reflects the interplay of a wide range of disciplines, to prepare and inspire our students to do the same, and to put knowledge into action to promote responsive and effective policies in justice, law and society. We aim to take advantage of our location in our nation’s capital to create opportunities for research and teaching, and to widen our impact as scholars and teachers.
As scholars, we pledge to create and publish high-quality research that informs policy, practice, and scholarship in justice, law and society. We strive to create and sustain a productive interdisciplinary environment that inspires cutting-edge research.
As teachers, we are dedicated to providing our students with a high-quality, interdisciplinary learning environment within which they can develop their intellectual foundation, their insights and values, and their critical thinking and research skills. Equipped with these tools, they can become active and informed citizens, well-prepared for the challenges of academic, legal and public service careers.
