"ECMS took flight, unbeknownst to the original players at the time, back in the 70’s. Two kids with a passion for motocross racing became friends through their involvement in the sport. Tom Ridley was working the parts counter at a local shop, and quickly befriended a regular customer, Mike Johnston. The two partners in crime remained friends throughout the years, becoming competitive A riders in the process. They would eventually realize their long time dream of opening their own dealership.
Fast forward to June 1997. A local palm reader in the area decided to close her doors, leaving behind a prime location in the heart of Ellicott City. The seed was planted for ECMS. The shop started with pre-owned bikes only, along with parts and accessories. Space was limited, but things were taking shape, and the plan was working. Hard work and determination paid off, and Yamaha was the first to notice this new creation in Ellicott City.
1998 arrives and in addition to the selection pre-owned bikes, Yamaha is now added to the lineup. Momentum is picking up and other manufacturers hop aboard. Soon enough, that old familiar lime green color invades the showroom floor. Kawasaki is added in 2000, also the same year the shop moves to its current location on Bethany Lane. Soon after, the Suzuki line appears on the showroom floor in 2003. Not only does the showroom now boast a full lineup of quality Japanese bikes, but the European market is explored as well. KTM enters the streetbike fray with a vengeance, and in 2005, the shop adds their street and supermoto lineup in addition to their legendary off-road and motocross models.
As you can probably guess, every employee here is also a rider. From the folks in service getting your bike repaired to the sales reps helping you choose that perfect first motorcycle. It's not just a business, but rather a way of life. We’re all enthusiasts, just like you. Some of us won’t settle for anything less than a top podium spot, while others simply enjoy hooking up with friends for a nice Sunday ride through the twisties. On any given week you can find us out at the local mx tracks, on the front row at Summit Point for the WERA nationals, the flat track races in Timonium and Hagerstown, or just cruising through the neighborhood in search of a good road.
But most importantly, we’re all here to help make your motorcycling experience as enjoyable and rewarding as possible."
