To help establish and support the Freedom Riders National Monument providing a public a place for education, reflection and uplifting stories that pertain to the struggle for civil rights and the Freedom Riders horrific burning bus incident that took place on May 14th, 1961.

This site was established in 2017 to honor the Freedom Riders and their legacy of action.Freedom Riders National Monument is temporarily closed. The Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce, located at 1330 Quintard Ave, serves as a 24/7 visitor's center. Visitors have access to an interactive kiosk, passport stamps, brochures and junior ranger books in the chamber vestibule.The greyhound mural at the depot is being renovated.
