This campground was lovely - my group was mostly first timers and novices to camping, and we brought 9 people including a few toddlers. It was fantastic and the babies had fun at the river. It does get crowded on summer weekends, and the mosquitos were manageable.
Go here to get away from it all! No cell service. Absolutely beautiful, well kept, and quiet. Some of the loops are closed for addressing root rot in the trees, it looks like an abandoned camp ground in those areas. The Clackamas River was a stones throw from our camp site.
This place has over half of the campsites blocked oft andnahit down. Looks like it needs some major clean up. I camped there a long time ago it was nice. We did have one drunk camper come and randomly visit out site from who knows where. The river is clean and clear around here, not sure if booking has it updated that there are so many unavailable.
My boyfriend and I stayed here on our roadtrip down the west coast from Canada and I was really unsure at first, mostly from the other campers not being super friendly. The garbage became a little overloaded after the weekend and the only open bathroom was the outhouse which was taken over by flies for a few days. Most of the issues actually are a result of disrespectful campers who don't treat the site properly. The second night in two girls camping next to us clearly did shrooms, giggled for 5 hours, threw up, and then giggled some more. The next day was reaaallly hot and we found there was a beautiful Creek with lots of fallen trees to walk on and explore and it was about 10 degrees cooler down there. We also got new neighbours which was nice too. Then we explored the old loops that aren't open anymore due to the threat of falling trees but followed some paths in the woods to find an abandoned amphitheatre, some overgrown campsites and bathrooms and a beautiful swimming hole on the river with huge cliff like rocks accessible by a rope to climb down onto the rocks with. Soon became our favourite campsite yet. It's pretty far out there, estacada is an interesting town depending on your definition of interesting. Also the park host Sam was a very very nice man and his dog is very cute and serious. We thought he seemed like a David but didn't get the chance to ask. Overall it's a very cool place to explore, campsites are good enough and lots of space. I hope one day they can get enough help to restore some of the cool spots there cause it's basically magical.
Beautiful camping area! We went in the middle of May and there was no water available. We just used the water we brought in. I think the water will be available in the summer. It asks on the website not to bring in your own wood, as it can spread disease and insects, but they didn't have any firewood for sale! We were allowed to pick up and burn any wood we found on the ground, though and there's quite a bit. The large restroom building is closed, but they have an outhouse. Close to great hiking! Also about half an hour drive away from Bagby Hotsprings.
Good potable water. Dump toilets. More than half of campground closed due to tree root disease and drainage contamination. Open areas are ok. Some sites are lacking level tent locations and there is significant erosion resulting in trip hazards around tables and parking areas. River is close by and accessible with no cleared path. Crows, mosquitoes and yellow jackets are mostly tolerable. Would not be my first choice, but acceptable especially when camping with a group due to location and good drinking water.
NOT A TRAILER FRIENDLY CAMP GROUND! We pull up and there is no way our 19ft trailer will fit even though the desc. It should be a tent only campground. But, hey don't say I didn't warn you! We had to turn around and go back home.
Awesome camping spot. Be aware that basically all the loops except for C loop are closed and are extremely overgrown. They make for great scenic walks though! I will be attempting to come back every year.
Only camped for 1 day but overall I had a good experience. I didn't like how they had all these camps spots that you couldnt camp in for whatever reason it was. But they still had plenty of great spots to camp in! Good river access!
I was tempted to rate this as a 4 star because the national government isn't taking good care of the property but the campground is one of my favorites in Oregon. If you aren't going for the weekdays making reservations in February like I did. :-
