I will add to all the terrible reviews of this hospital. I worked in healthcare for years and have visited several hospitals the last few years with my dad. The waiting room today at JCMC looked like something out of a movie, people everywhere. My dad is 2 weeks post nephrectomy with weakness and suspected GI bleed and sat for 6 hours. People were hungry and the vending machines were broken but told if they left to get food they would lose their place in line. Moving back to a bay was only minimally better and then he was moved again into the hallway beside the nurse station. There are signs indicating this is a regular practice- they call them Acute Hallway Beds - patients lining the nurse station. This is embarrassing for an otherwise thriving city- do better JCMC.
My son was in the ER last night, airlifted in from another town with a severe leg wound. The place was absolutely filthy. Rooms, bathrooms, waiting areas all with trash, bloody items. Nursing care was pathetic. Our room overlooked nurses station and there were several employees sitting around constantly on their phones. Not once did they ask my son if he needed Anything. The resident physician made a sad attempt to clean the area around the wound upon my request as it was covered in mud. To top it all off They Brought a wheelchair in the room to wheel him out but told my daughter law she could do it so they didn’t even assist with his departure. Appalled by this …..
This is the worst hospital I've ever been too. I have been sitting here for 12 1/2 hours. I came in last night. My water broke and my cord came out when it did. They didn't even try to save my baby. And they haven't even done my c section to take her. 12 1/2 hours I still have my baby inside me with no heartbeat. They keep telling me I'm next. Been told 3 times your next. I'm still waiting. I know I can't do anything about my baby at this point. But what about my health I have other children that still need there mom. But they keep saying I'm not that important. That my health isn't as important as others. Worst hospital I've ever been too. 12 1/2 hours I've had a umbilical cord. Hanging out of me and my baby inside of me that had passed on. And my health isn't important. Just got told 2 more hours . After they told me 30 mins an hour ago. Nobody cares about health here. It's all about the money. Please if you want to save yourself and your baby don't come here.
Terrible experience. The room my father-in-law was assigned had a toilet that doesn't flush, we were admitted at midnight and maintenance was called 3 times before I asked for a new room. My husband and I took shifts. I've been here for 8 hours, his meals have been forgotten, when asked about the meal hes diabetic, the nurse finally called food services and we're still waiting an hour later. I've only seen the nurse once in the 8 hours time Ive been here. I worry about people who don't have family members who can advocate for them, this is beyond being able to be blamed on short staffing. This is terrible.
My DIL went in to have her baby this morning at 35 weeks. It is only by sheer luck that I was still in town, as I had plans to travel back to Florida only a few hours later. My son called me and asked me to come get my granddaughters as they are not permitted to be there before 8am.... What would the hospital have done if I wasn't here to get them? They would have forced my son to miss the birth of his child! I heard the nurse over the phone droning on about hospital policy and being EXTREMELY rude to my son as I drove like a madman at 4am to get there. Sorry babies don't follow hospital policy in their timing. They have no family here, and had I already left for Florida that is exactly the position the hospital would've placed on him..... To miss the birth of his child and force my DIL to deliver alone. What happened to compassion in medicine? What happened to first do no harm? COVID has completely stripped the humanity out of the medical field, and you should be ashamed!
I am retired ER/trauma nurse and am appalled with the lack of compassion and care I witnessed on the night of Jan 4, 2023 in the emergency room by the nurse in triage 2. An elderly man was sitting in a wheelchair, next to that door and needed assistance. We were across the room and could hear him beckoning her attention when she came out of the room. She stood by the door facing him, less than 4 ft away and blatantly ignored him. It was impossible to not see or hear him. She went back in the triage room. I went and knocked on the door stating the man needed assistance. She looked at me, didn’t acknowledge, and turned away. The man wanted to get up and go to the restroom and had mobility issues. My daughter and I helped him up and walked on either side of him to the men’w washroom and opened the doors for him to go in. A few minutes later we heard some clattering, we went in to see he had fallen, but he was not injured. We assisted him back up and to the same chair. Later he asked another professional for a blanket. She said, “I will be right back” and never returned. My daughter asked registration clerk for blanket and we covered him up. A few minutes later another employee possibly from registration brought out warm blankets and passed them out. I know the ER in the back was busy since there were about 20 patients in ER lobby waiting for beds, but the triage nurse was not busy and had a second person helping her in triage. We were there 5 hours and not once did anyone check vital signs or ask any patient if they needed anything. The ER lobby had lots of trash laying around-empty food containers, bottles, IV bags and not once was it cleaned and bathrooms were dirty.
Around 6:30 am on Thursday the 20th of October I was admitted in ER for severe case of Hives. My first experience with hives. We were traveling and had stayed in a Motel off of Hwy 26. The hives were severe and the reason for the ER visit in Johnson City. I want the staff on duty and the next staff change of shifts that I could not have had any better care from the doctors and all that was involved. I would call the care I received excellent, courteous, concerned, knowledgeable, and friendly service immediate care and solved the problem so we could continue our trip to Florida. Thank You very much for the care I received, All the staff was God's sent to help me. Sharon Lewis, Indiana/Florida
The worst medical facility. It's dirty. No one is at the front desk to help. We came in to get blood work done for our daughter and we walked around the children's hospital part 3 times and no one could help us. Until one lady was nice enough to bring us to the ER part. Our doctor had sent orders in but they said they didn't have them and she had to be admitted at an ER patient to be seen. Luckily our doctor called us wondering why they had not received the test results. We told him they didn't have the orders and he had to call the hospital and give them a verbal order to get it done. When we arrived in the waiting room there was chicken bones and urine in the floor. We waited over an 3 hours for them to get to us for something that only took a couple minutes. This facility is ridiculous and most the people are rude. We never want to have to come here if we don't have too.
The nurses that are assigned to you were overall very nice and knowledgeable.. but in the ICU, I believe if someone was dying and your nurse wasn't around they would wait till your dead before a different one would come check on you.. my wife's trach came loose while I was in her room, luckily and the trach disconnected alarm went off three or 4 times while she wasn't breathing at all.. I finally found what it was and hooked it back up myself. Not one nurse ever came to check on her. When her nurse did come in I told her what happened and all I get is an oh really? It came off another day and this time her nurse happened to be near and came after I already hooked it back up myself. You better not have to use the restroom while staying after hours at ICU either. I asked the girl jokingly if she was going to let me back in after I used the restroom in the lobby and got a drink. I ended up standing there almost 10 minutes until a nurse that was in the hall let me in. When I came in there were 6 of them sitting at the counter where the door buzzer was, giggling. Someone always made sure to stay every night after that.. ridiculous. I was so angry.
Leaving a review, noticed that it gets horrible ratings once I came her to review. Drove 40 min to bring my kids 8 and 5 to see my mother in law while she sits in the waiting room as her son lays in the ICU. Front desk said they don’t like to have kids in the building and it was up to whomever was in charge that day “so not really a rule” just whatever they feel at the moment kind of thing! But they will call up and ask the charge nurses permission on the floor. Unfortunately he stated that it would not be okay this evening. So my wife went on up and I sat in the car with the kids. Vote red is all I need to say
