Came in on a Wednesday morning with 1yr old showing signs of respiratory distress. We were brought back to be evaluated quickly. The nurses and techs were all wonderful with him, and for feeling so bad, he was calm and smiling bc they were so friendly. Doctor was kind and thorough. Were given a breathing treatment, symptoms backed off significantly, tested for the common rhinovirus and were sent home with a nebulizer and meds to do breathing treatments at home. Everything moved pretty quickly for an ER - granted it was slow when we came in. He is improving and acting like his smiley, happy self Thanks, Niswonger!
This hospital is a blessing in the sky's, hands down . We were transported from Bristol tn were we experienced the worst care ever. But we arrived at JC niswonger children hospital an from the moment we stepped in that door the care the communication was right there. I wanna give a special thanks to every single one of y'all. Baby Jayce an family
AMAZING staff. They treated my daughter EXTREMELY well. They did not rush to send her home. Nurses made my daughter feel very comfortable. They gave her a bin of toys to play with. It was also her birthday and even gave her a present.
I took my 4 year old daughter to the ER for RSV and UTI. She had a high temp, vomiting and had not urinated in over 8 hours. They took her in immediately and took her sickness very seriously. We didn't wait long at all to see the doctor and they even brought my daughter a prize. They were patient and gentle with her and checked in on us multiple times while she was sipping her Gatorade. I would definitely recommend Niswonger Children's ER department and I really appreciate them being so good to us.
Niswonger is a very nice Hospital when it comes to taking care of children and making sure they're happy some of the nurses here are very very nice and then of course you have a few who are not as nice but for the most part everyone is friendly and they try to help you as much as they possibly can , the food is not too bad but it's also not great but better than most hospital food , they have no problem with cleanliness everything is super clean and and all the nurses make sure to wash their hands and used germx as much as possible. Nobody likes having their children in the hospital but if you do have to I highly recommend niswonger it's one of the nicest ones I've ever been to.
Came in because my 3 yo has had a fever over 103 for two days now and has kept a fever the last 5 days. I understand my situation isn’t necessarily emergent and could have waited for an urgent care or primary care. However how does that deal waiting almost 2 hours to be stuck in what they call a hall bed which is just two chairs int the hall. Then have a doctor tell me she sounds fine just wait on the swab test meanwhile she’s getting dehydrated has hardly eaten in five days and has a rash all over her face from whatever this is.
I have had 3 different experiences at this hospital and all 3 times they where amazing! 1 of the times my child was sent by our local ER and even tho he didn’t need the surgery they sent him for Niswongers still kept him for observation just to make sure nothing was going on ! They didn’t rush us out or blow him off. The other 2 times my children did need surgery and they where absolutely wonderful both times. From the cafeteria staff to the surgeons everyone was friendly, helpful , and professional. I will never take my children anywhere else ! The er nurses and the floor nurses went above and beyond to make sure my babies where happy and taken care of, they gifted my daughter 3 with toys a beautiful blanket and was so respectful to her. I love how they treat the children like the would a adult as far as talking to them and letting them know what’s going on. Instead of just putting on a blood pressure sleeve and checking it they ask and explain befor they do anything and I love that. They also where phenomenal with my new born when he had surgery. I just can’t say enough good things about this place. There was a few that was kinda rude and just not very nice but that’s everywhere no place is perfect but this place is the closer to it I’ve seen.
My 2 year old son had to have surgery and we stayed at the children’s hospital for 5 days. Everyone that we came in contact with was friendly and helpful. All the pediatric nurses were amazing! They would go out of their way to make us more comfortable. One of our night nurses “Bonnie” went above and beyond when we had a scare with our son to make sure that everything was ok with him. She took such good care of him and even stopped by to check on him on her way home. I can’t even begin to express how thankful I am for her and her attentiveness towards our son.
I was sent to the Niswonger Children’s Hospital from my local hospital 2.5 hours away due to my daughters broken ribs and pancreas being bruised and inflamed and not knowing about how severe it really was. They sent us for the pediatric surgeon. I had to follow the ambulance and was about 15 minutes behind them, and when I finally arrived to the hospital, my daughter was in the ER with a bunch of nurses with her. She was very well cared for and they were super sweet. As we waited for a room, they brought her tons of stuff to do to keep her busy like coloring items and painting items. We finally got in our room and we’re greeted by so many nurses that were super upbeat and nice. They had the room waiting with a stuffed animal on the bed for my daughter. They all took great care of her and checking in on her and making all of us feel as comfortable as possible. Her main nurse, Renata was AMAZING! She made us all feel welcome and took EXCELLENT care of my daughter. When she found that my daughter was finally able to eat, she was right on that phone getting her something up here. My daughter had to do a number 2 and was so embarrassed bc we had a misunderstanding and she used the toilet hat to collect it and the nurse had to see it. She did AMAZING at comforting my daughter so she wouldn’t feel embarrassed. Same when she had an accident in the bed due to all the fluids they were pumping in her. They made her feel comfortable and not embarrassed. The whole team of doctors we have met were super amazing as well. They all were all very nice, informative and made you feel like they cared and had my daughters best interest in mind. They all have education and know what they are talking about. Especially Dr. Taylor, the pediatric surgeon. I hope you don’t have to come here, but if you do, just know you’re in wonderful hands :
My granddaughter who is 3 months old is currently there. She is screaming in pain and vomiting up all her formula. Was told by the pediatrician to take her so that a GI would see her faster. No one has done anything to help her!! The dr and nurse put it in her chart a GI was needed and the GI said she wasn’t urgent enough to even come evaluate!! A 3 months old weighing only 8 lbs!!! Even a basic parent can tell you she should weight more by now!! Useless and Incompetent. If I could say zero stars I would!! Don’t worry UT is taking her immediately!
